All around him, people were pleading for him to save their souls. Man, woman, child were unable to escape the wrath of the creatures that ruthlessly stole their lives without a second thought. These creatures looked human enough, and yet they looked so painfully beautiful, their faces and bodies too perfectly sculpted to be wholly human. What made them look more like monsters were the evil grins on their flawless faces and their huge dark wings molded seamlessly to the backs of their too smooth flesh.
"Join us Taebin! You know you want to!" They taunted him, surrounding him and consuming the souls of one human after another in a display for him.
He looked at them with a mixture of disgust and horror.
"Never! I'm not like you! I'll never be like you!" He screamed at them.
They looked scornfully at him. "Don't be so sure about that. It's only a bit of time before you finally see what you really are."
With a violent shake of his head, he started to run away from them.
"Taebin! Taebin!" They continued to chant his name.
"Get away from me!"
The creatures' wicked laughter bounced around until it nearly drove him mad. He covered his ears to escape the horrible shrieking and the sound of the dying, moaning in agony with their last breath, while bright hot flames licked everything within sight.
So many bodies.
So many of the dying, reaching out for him to save them, to save their souls.
So many creatures were crawling everywhere, invading and crowding like locusts mindlessly wreaking havoc on the helpless mass.
So many more were frighteningly hovering in the skies. There were so many that the sun itself could not be seen.
So many souls lost within the void that threatened to engulf everything below. Above him, the white gates were closing, as if God
Himself knew that the war would soon be over, and that it would end in favour of the darkness.
Danny could feel his stomach dangerously heaving at the stench around him. He covered his mouth in an attempt to escape the pungent smell of the air that threatened to suffocate him, but to no avail. He blindly reached above him, as if trying to escape the chaos and return to the only safe haven left on this plane of existence.
But it was too late.
The white gates reached the remaining distance between each other, a final resounding bang as it closed tightly shut.
He opened his mouth and tried to call out for help but no sound came out. He began to walk over the bodies, desperately searching for someone-anyone left. Danny ran faster and faster, until the ground, littered with so many bodies, blurred beneath him. He willed for his wings to lift him to the skies but they remained broken. He looked behind him to see them horribly mangled, scraping uselessly against the broken pavement. The beautiful white feathers that had once adorned his wings were coarse and dark, as sleek as a raven's.
They looked exactly like the wings the creatures possessed. Danny helplessly wondered why everything was going so horrifyingly wrong. He knew the testing of the balance of the world would come but he would never have expected it to be at this exact moment. There was nothing in his whole existence that could have possibly prepared him for this.
He desperately reached out for someone to assure him that he was just hallucinating. Without warning, someone was roughly thrown against him. Danny lost his balance and fell down on the broken pavement. He looked up to find an unconscious girl lying on top of him. Her long dark hair was in her face, blocking his view. He suddenly forgot everything that was happening around him and struggled to see what she looked like. For some reason, he knew the key to stopping this madness was to figure out the identity of the girl. Just when he was nearly done removing her hair from her face, he heard someone approaching them at a break-neck speed.
