Hey everybody! Sorry I haven't updated lately. I have been doing a ton of stuff lately so I haven't had time! Sorry this is late and short but I am trying to get back on track. I'm not sure when I will be updating again, but I will work on it and thank you so muck for 1k reads!! It means a lot!
I was still trying to process what they were trying to say. Usually they don't let you go and you have to stay in here forever, at least that's how I see it.
"Ok." Was all I said.
She wrote something down and walked out of the room as Sam walked back in.
"What's going on?" Was the first thing he said.
"When my back is better she is releasing me. I guess I should consider myself lucky." I sighed.
"Well that's good. Right?"
"Yeah. Yeah it is." I shook my head.
"Do you want to go for a walk?" He asked.
"Sure."
He went outside to consult with the nurse and walked in a few minutes later.
"Were all good." He beamed.
He put his hand on my back to help me get up as I hissed in pain.
"Sorry." He frowned.
I stood up and had him take a quick look at my back.
"Oh my god Devyn."
"What?"
"They are so much better now."
"What?" I asked confused.
"It's practically gone. Maybe another week and you're out of here."
Without thinking I turned around and pulled him close to me. I pressed my lips gently against his. Before I knew it he pulled away.
"What's wrong." I stepped back.
"I'm not sure i'm ready to take that step again."
"Why?"
"Devyn, we both lied to each other. As far as i'm concerned that is something that will always be there. Just friends."
I said nothing in return and I sat down and he took me down to the park outside. It was an awkward silence for a couple of minutes. He stopped at a bench and sat down.
"Sam?"
He turned his attention to me.
"I'm sorry. About kissing you." I messed around with my fingers.
"It's ok." He threw himself forward and looked at me.
"I'm hungry. Let's head to the room and order something." He moved the wheelchair.
We got back to the room and scanned the menus they left trying to find something to eat.
"Excuse me Devyn." A nurse knocked on the door.
"A young man left this card and flowers for you." She smiled and left.
I opened the card and read-
'Devyn,
You are going to have to excuse the mess. It takes getting used to. How the system works is 3 marks appear somewhere on your body, nothing can cure these as you may have already found out. After a few days these marks start to disappear quickly. You won't be able to notice, though. Once these marks have nearly cleared up a forth will start to appear. This one can be cured, but only on certain circumstances. It takes the blood of another. One life for another. Please note that if not cured within a week, you die.'
The card wasn't signed.
"AHHHHHH!" I screamed.
"What's wrong?"
I jumped out of bed and walked into the bathroom and looked at my back in the mirror. The sight was confusing. Sam walked in and stopped at the door once he saw it. A forth gash had formed.
