David Gwen and max pulled up at a small White House with green shutters and plants around it David grabbed maxs bags out of the car and brung them into the house and into Max's room after they brought in everything Gwen had to go home and that left just David and max
"so this is your new room, of course, it's not done yet but we will get it done in time," said David with Max's clothes in his hand David put his clothes on the bed and left to let max get everything situated in his room after a while David yelled to max that dinner was ready
"ok ill be there in a minute" yelled max down the hall"
"ok but hurry up your food will get cold" yelled David back to max dropped the stuff he was holding and ran out of his room to the table David made meatloaf and it looked really good max didn't hesitate and cut into it and ate it was really good
"why don't you cook at the camp your cooking is really good," said max with his face stuffed with meatloaf this complement caught David off guard max never says anything nice well from what David knows maybe max isn't as messed up as he thought
"so max do you like your room I still need to paint the walls but that could wait," said David taking a sip of his soda
"it's amazing I only had a bed in my room and a dresser in my old room and some kids have it worse but still," said max looking into his glass of water with a hint of a smile on his otherwise neutral face David didn't know what to say so he stuffed his face with meatloaf like max
"Hey, David umm can I ask you something..." said max now looking at David seriously
"Oh, of course, what is it," said David looking at max
"why are you always happy I mean how do you do it," said max trying to get to know David better since the guy was his new dad
"well when I was about your age my parents fought a lot and they would always be sad or mad after so I made it my job to always cheer them up after my parent got a divorce I wanted to try to make everyone smile I know that the words messed up but I don't worry about the bad stuff I like to look at the good things in the world" said David almost crying, David whipped his eyes and continued to eat
"David..." said max looking at David almost crying from his story
"hey it's ok that was a long time ago," said David smiling like normal even though max didn't want to admit it he now admired David, a bit more than he already did yeah he was still annoying and still a little too happy but that's just how he is max was learning new stuff about David and he realized that David just wants everyone to be happy
"hey max do you want to go to the park it's only 1:00," said David putting their dishes in the sink and washing them
"huh on yeah sure that sounds cool," said max putting his hands in his hoodie pockets max got up and put on his shoes and waited for David to get ready and soon enuff David was at the door ready to go the park was only down the street so they walked
"so you're going to be in 4th grade I got you signed up for it already we will go shopping on Monday school don't start until next Monday," said David happy that he has a son now after a few moments they got to the park maxs eyes lit up with excitement they had a jungle gym max loved those max ran to it so did David they pretended to be monkeys max hasn't felt like this happy since he was a toddler and that was a long time ago after that max got on the swings and David pushed him max didn't care either he kinda liked it David was more of a dad then his real dad ever would be to him after a wile of David pushing max started pushing David and that was fun even for max soon the sun started to come down and they went home
"David I know this is weird it's weird for me too but doesn't think too much of what I am about to say...I am sorry for what I did at the camp I knew that would get you mad but I still did it" said max yawning David was shocked at what max just did he just said he was sorry David noticed max was getting really tired and was about to collapse
"hey max want me to carry you the rest of the way," said David holding out his arms
"ok let's not go that fucking far I did a lot of things I never thought I would ever do," said max dragging his feet along the ground scraping his shoes
"max language," said David determined to stop maxs cussing
"Oh sorry," said max yawning not even paying attention to what he was saying they finally got to the house and max went straight to the couch
"max get ready for bed it's almost 6 said, David, trying to start a routine for nights max got up and went into the bathroom to brush his teeth after that he went into his room and put on a plain white shirt with his underwear max didn't care it wasn't like there where girls there
after that max went on top of his bed David came in and saw that max was asleep on top of his bed and put him under his cover and turned out the lights
"goodnight max" said David turning off the lights and closing the door behind him and getting into bed himself
