It's that time of the year again, Singles day. The day of the year more commonly referred to as Valentines day - well to those who can share it with someone else. Hence, Singles day to those of us unlucky folks, who go through a whole day watching couples give each other presents and do cute gestures.

Some might think that I'm over exaggerating, and though I could be going a bit overboard - those who suffer this day with me understand completely. And then, there is the special cases - like me - who definitely will not find any secret lovers.

I'm gay, and I have a slight crush on probably the most straightest guy in school, typically. The thought of being gay is not only something frowned upon, but every guy knows the second they walk into this school to stay away from anyone thought to be gay.

I don't have any social issues, I have many gurlfriends and a few guy friends that keep a shorter distance from me then the rest.

As I walk into school, I'm greeted by my various friends as we walk past each other. I'm headed for my group in the courtyard, which is actually two netball fields.

"Thomas, happy Valentines day!" Is the greetings I get from the friends that don't have to suffer Singles day. Those of which join me, greet with, "Thomas, I got a stash of chocolate from mom. I heard you'll be bringing as well. Jess said we were going to munch today?" The reply was, "Hell yeah!"

What I wasn't counting on was that my closest friends, Raqell and Isen, the two popular chicks in my school, had told a certain someone of me being single on this lovely day.

First break came around and this can only be explained as the 'climax' of Valentines day for those lucky enough. Every 'lucky' person in this school decided to be extra, just in case they get luckier. The prefects would stand on the stage, which was largely populated by a 'DJ' stand and the prefects who arrange the whole shenanigan, they would call up every 'lucky' person and give them their presents sent from those 'extra' pupils.

I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn't even hear when my name was called. My friends, Cobie and John lightly pushed me forwards efficiently breaking my chain of thought. I look up and realise the prefect, Marlise was calling my name. I walked closer to her. I stopped in front of her, she then reached out to hand me a bouquet of white roses and a large present bag with a card.

"It's from that cute guy Luke, or something. Turns out he's interested in you. You should go say 'Hi', see how it goes." She says, pointing to the direction of Lukus. He caught my eye and smiled.

Lukus smiled at me. My secret crush, smiled at me. Maybe, just maybe, this day wasn't as bad as I thought.
