Luciana:
I was whistling on my way back home when- Splat! I looked around to see where the sound came from and I froze. Is that a baby bird? Creeping closer while I tried not to scare the poor creature, it became positive that it indeed was a baby bird except for the fact that it's wing was bent in an odd angle. "Did you hurt yourself? Don't worry, I'll help you. Maybe you can stay with me as my birthday gift!" I gently picked up the twittering chick and started walking again, whispering soothing words over and over again so the frayed nerves of the hurt creature could be calmed.
By the time I got to the wooden fences of my house, it had already become dusk. I noticed that something was off about my beloved wood cabin; it was too quiet. I didn't hear the sound of my mom washing clothes or my dad playing his beloved fiddle. There was only the absolute silence falling down and covering this whole place. As fast as I could, I jumped over the fence, ran across the grass field, and quickly slammed open the door only to freeze in shock. The house was a total mess. The windows were smashed with glass pieces everywhere, the chairs were shattered leaving wood splinters, and the rest of the furniture were all in the same shape.
"Mom? Dad?" No reply. "Mom, Dad, this isn't funny." Once again, there was no reply. "MOM! DAD! Stop playing around!" Alarmed and scared, I opened the door to my parents' room. Tears filled my eyes at the sight. My two beloved parents lay on the ground in puddles of blood, dead. This is just one terrible nightmare, right? I plopped down next to them and shook them hoping that everything would just return to a normal morning. "Mom, wake up!" As I tried and tried to get her to come back to me, I noticed the vacant look in her usually joy-filled eyes: they were eyes that belonged to a soulless person. "Mom, Dad, stop it already. T-this is the WORST BIRTHDAY SURPRISE! So just come back to me already!" I looked at the only family I ever had in my life once again and felt myself grow numb. It was as if my heart had been ripped out of my chest, making me feel lifeless. Chirp! I jerked my head to the sound of the noise, only to find the injured bird.
"Oh, it's you." I totally forgot about it. I crept over, cupped it gently in my hands, and hugged it. "Why did this happen to me? What did I do to deserve this?" I whispered. I slowly stood up. I can't stay here. I just can't. I went to the doorway and looked back at my lost parents. "I'll miss you guys." The next thing I knew, I was running to my beloved forest, the one place my parents had made me promise not to go to.
