The Unexpected

This room seems so familiar to me now, the hard, sterile chair masked to my body as a result of sitting here for days. The clinical smell plasters my nostrils. Consent beeping fixed in my ears; while I wait... For him to awake.

I have been here two weeks now just waiting for my Luke to come back to me; Just hopping I would hear voice again and be embraced by his dreamy, ocean like eyes, you could get lost in. my mind I keep reliving the events that lead to us being here...

"Hurry up Darcy we haven't got all day" Luke bawled from down the hall. I look out of my bedroom door to see him, waiting for me, by the found door with his bag. He looked as striking as always, his dazzling blue eyes glistened like a tropical sea.

"I'll be there in a minute" I exclaimed.

"Babe we can't be late on our last day" he says as I quickly scraped my dirty bound hair into a messy bun and seized my bag from on the side. I hurried down to where Luke was standing.

"Finally" he sighed as I lean into kiss he on the cheek. He embraces my hand as he kissed me back. Luke grabbed the car keys and we strolled out, the door hand in hand, to the car.

It was a fine summer's morning, although in the distance I could see a few rain clouds but I wasn't going to let that spoil my day.

It was our last day at university. Me and Luke had been studying at Cambridge University for three years and we were finally leaving. We met in our first year of university when where studying law together, it was love at first sight (not to be cliché). In our second year of university we decided to buy an apartment, which was about a 15 minute drive from university.

As we were driving down the narrow lanes, it suddenly the heavens opened and the rain was coming down with force. Rain drops where like bullets bouncing off the wind screen, so we couldn't see the road ahead us. As Luke turned at a sharp bend in the road, the cars wheels started to spin aggressively on the slippery surfaces. Luke slowly pushes his foot on the brakes hoping to gain control of the car again. I looked over at him; showing a worried face as I placed my hand on his knee the car started to rapidly move forward, towards some hedgerow. My heart was racing it felt like it was going to burst from my chest! What was going on? What was going to happen? Will we be ok, WAS I GOING TO DIE... as all these thoughts where rushing though my head I could feel my breathing was getting faster and faster, I tried to calm myself down but I just couldn't. I fixed my eyes on Luke who had tried his best to save us he just looked at me with those eyes in sorrow and worry. We where now firmly clutching each other's hand as we wished, prayed everything would be okay.

"I love you" I remember him saying to me I was about to reply but the car suddenly stated to roll and turn... Then everything went black.

Everything went by so fast but I remember it so clearly. I wished I could have replied to him, to tell him how much he meant to me.

Now here I am sitting waiting to be met by his deep blue eyes, to hear his husky, refreshing voice again. I looked down at my remanding cuts and burses left on me, thinking, I get interrupted by suturing coming from Luke's bed I quickly flung my head up to see if it was true (or I was imagining it). Without hesitation I grabbed his hand gently.

"Luke, Luke, I'm so glad you are finally awake. I love you" I whispered softly into his ear. He quickly flinched away, looking at me with fear in his eyes.

"Where am I...? Who are you?" Luke panicked.

"It's me Darcy, you're in hospital, we were in a car accident" I calmly replied but slowly coming to the relations of what could be happening.

"No I wasn't, I don't even know you GET OUT" he franticly shouted.

They where the words that broke my heart forever, as I realised I would never get my Luke back.
