The beautiful red head lay in bed and hugged her pillow tight to try drift off to sleep. She has always had trouble falling asleep ever since her brother Jason had died but more so these past couple weeks. It was only her and her horrible mother who lived in that house, making Cheryl feel unsafe.

Tears fall down her cheeks as she squeezed her eyes shut. She didn't have anyone to talk to about her problems because everyone just sees her as the loveless monster she shows out to be. Although Cheryl doesn't mean to come across as bitchy, she can't help it. It's hard when you've gone through so much. You have to put a barrier up and protect yourself.

As her eyes open for the 100th time that night she sees a small light shining through the edge of the curtain. She frowns, it can't be morning already can it?

Sighing, the girl hops out of bed and goes to the bathroom to take a shower. She glances at the clock as she walks by.

7:01AM

Great. One and a half hours until she has to socialise with people at school. Oh joy.

"Yo Toni."

The small girl groans as she hears her fellow serpent wake her up. She grabs the first thing she feels on her bed and chucks it at the boy. "Go away Jughead."

He dodges it but smirks seeing what she had just thrown at him "Oh cute, who knew the little badass Toni Topaz would still sleep with a stuffed animal." He says picking it up.

The girl's eyes shoot open realising she had thrown her little brown bear her dad gave to her as a child. "Leave Theo alone." She says snatching the toy from the boy.

He puts his hands up in defense chuckling a little bit at how protective she was over it. He watches as she puts the toy- I mean Theo down next to her "Seriously though get up, we have to meet the guys before we head to school."

Shit. She forgot it was the Southsides' first day at Riverdale High. "Ok five more minutes." She says leaning back to rest her body once again.

"Now Toni!" The boy says shoving her causing her to tumble off the bed. She shoots him a death stare but stands up to get ready. She'll get him back later.

Cheryl yawns as she watches her teacher draw up an equation on the board. Her eyes are feeling heavy and as they're about to shut she feels her phone vibrate in her pocket.

New message from: Veronica

She furrows her eyebrows in confusion and turns to her left to see the raven haired girl staring at her. The girl motions her to check her phone.

V: Hey, you don't look so great. Are you okay?

Cheryl's heart skips at the thought of someone actually caring for her. She's always liked Veronica even though it doesn't really seem that way but she likes that the girl is actually a good person and cares for everyone even if she isn't friends with them.

She smiles a bit but shakes it off because she has to keep her barrier up, to ensure she doesn't get hurt.

C: Wow thanks V for pointing out the OBVIOUS. I just love when people tell me I don't look great. Leave me alone.

She sees Veronica frown in the corner of her eye at the sarcastic text. Cheryl hopes the girl messages something back, but instead she sees her lock her phone and place it back in her pocket. The red head sighs. She knows she told Veronica to leave her alone but she had a slight hope that maybe V wouldn't give up on her, that maybe she would ignore the sarcasm and actually tell her that everything was going to be okay and she'd be there for her. But Cheryl pushed her away just like she does with everyone.

The door swings open and Cheryl doesn't even bother to look up. She just stares at her empty notebook tapping her pen on the table.

"Sorry I'm late, I didn't know where my first class was." She hears a girl say.

"Ah, Toni Topaz." The teacher says flicking through some paper. "You can take a seat."

The girl nods and looks around the room. There was one spot left and it was sat behind Veronica. She walks towards her seat but accidentally knocks Cheryl's pen out of her hand as she passes.

The red headed girl gets ready to let her anger out on the person standing above her but she immediately stops as she catches beautiful brown eyes staring at her.

"Sorry." The girl says picking up her pen and placing it on the desk.

Cheryl doesn't reply as she's too busy eyeing every detail of the girl's body.

Toni just smirks slightly as she knows the girl is staring and walks to her seat.

The red head realises she had been staring and mentally slaps herself for being so weird. She couldn't help it though, that girl was gorgeous. She looks over at the new girl once again and sees her smile at her. She wants to smile back but instead rolls her eyes and looks back to her notebook.

Toni chuckles. She's going to get to know the beautiful, mysterious red head even if she does play hard to get.
