16. The Road So Far

Spoilers for the s13 finale of SPN

I choked air into my lungs as I came to reality. Standing in front of me was the angel. Behind her stood the entire Team Free Will gang, including Mary and-

"Bobby?" I breathed.

"Uh... Hi?" He replied, looking confused.

"This is Lapis. She's a close friend." Mary introduced.

"What happened?" Sam asked, kneeling next to me.

"She was dying, but I healed her." The angel spoke.

"Okay, yeah, forget that. What did I miss?" I asked, standing on my feet. I felt dizzy. How much of my own life had I missed?

I sat in my room, holding Kevin's maroon hoodie. He had been there, in that hopeless world Mary was in. And he had died. Again. And I didn't even get to so much as look at this one.

"I'm sorry... I couldn't... I couldn't stop him." Jack frowned, looking sincerely upset.

"I don't doubt that." I sniffed. I wiped my eyes free of tears and tossed the jacket in the bed. I stood and began walking out the door.

"Lapis? Where are you going?" Jack asked.

I froze. His voice sounded confused and hurt, like he didn't want me to go.

"Jack, I can't... be in the same room with you. You hurt me when you left. For Kaia. Showing her the good of her powers. You know the good of my powers? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! That's why Im human now! I would rather be weak than a demon!" Crescent moons formed on my palms as my nails bit into my skin.

"What?" Jack whispered.

"I loved you! And you abandoned me when I needed you most! And because of your little fling with Kaia, I almost died! So thanks, Jack! Thanks for ruining my life!" I roared.

"Whoa! Lapis, hey!" The angel said, grabbing my arm. "It's not his fault, and you know it."

I shook her arm off and whirled on her. "And you! Who the hell even are you?! Why didn't you just let me die?!"

The girl frowned. "I am the archangel Hope, the female counterpart to Gabriel." She confessed.

I shook my head. "Whatever. I don't care."

"I didn't let you die, because in the end, you'll be the only one capable of saving everything." Hope said, brown eyes wet with tears.

"What are you even talking about?" I hissed.

"You'll know. Soon." She whispered, looking behind me where Jack had just opened his wings and fled.

"Wait, you're leaving again?" I breathed, feeling my chest ache as my heart shattered.

Jack stood before me, Lucifer and Mary standing over the newly resurrected body of Maggie, one of the refugees.

"It's best this way. I can't ruin your life anymore." Jack replied.

I shook my head, my mind racing several miles a minute. "Jack, no. Please, I didn't mean it. Don't go." I begged. I latched onto his arm, feeling tears form in my blue eyes once again.

"I have to, Lapis. I'm sorry." His soft, pink lips touched my forehead and I let out a choked sob as the feeling of the kiss disappeared. With the sound of fluttering wings, the boy I fell in love with, the boy that made me feel human, left me once again.

I choked on air, one of Michael's hands crushing my windpipe. His other hand was wrapped tightly around Dean's throat, cutting off his oxygen, as well.

I could faintly hear Sam praying to Jack. Cas and Hope both lay on the floor, wounded. Hope looked horrified as she watched what her brother was doing to me.

A blast of golden energy formed and slammed into Michael. Dean and I both fell to the ground, gasping in as much air as our lungs would allow.

"You hurt my friends!" Jack's eyes glowed golden as he made Michael bleed from his eyes. "You hurt my family! You hurt the girl I love!" He twisted his hand slightly and Michael screamed in pain.

"Lucifer, we had a deal!" Michael cried out in anguish.

Jack dropped the archangel and turned to his biological father. "Is this true?"

Hope scurried over to me, grasping my pale hand in her darker one. "Lapis, listen to me very carefully. Remember what I said about me being your guardian angel?"

I nodded, trying to listen to both her and what was going on with Jack. It still hadn't registered what he had said about loving me.

"I'm not just that. You're my true vessel, Lapis. I know, it sounds bullshit. But it's true. Let me in one more time, so I can help Jack. He's going to need me at my fullest." She breathed. Her words came so quickly out of her red lips, it took my too long to process what she was saying.

"That's okay. I don't need you. I just need your power." Lucifer said before he snarled and slashed at Jack's neck. He began absorbing his grace.

"Jack, no!" I gasped, reaching for him.

Lucifer's eyes glowed gold, like Jack's, but almost duller somehow, and he reached for his son. Sam yelled and rushed forward, and then the three of them were gone.

"Lapis, let me in. You can trust me, okay? Please." Hope begged, pulling my attention to her. Her slender fingers held my chin, forcing me to look at her. Through blurry vision, I stared her down into her hypnotizing eyes once more.

"Okay. Help me save them." I whispered. If this was truly how it was meant to be, I'd do anything for Jack and Sam.

"Dean, no!" I heard Cas yell. By then, it was too late though. Hope had entered my body, and as she would allow me to learn, Dean had said yes to Michael.

This was not going to end well.

A/N: Hey guys! Sorry, this is rushed! But after that last episode, I had to get something out! Big things are coming in the next chapter, which will be the final chapter of this book until season 14 starts rolling out! Soon enough, I'll publish the spin-off/go-along book with this one about Alex and Lapis's actress. I might even do little one offs about Lapis before meeting Jack, like with Kevin and Crowley and things that came before this story. We'll see!
