I really like her I really do. She's really funny. She was running late today to class, she sprinted behind me and fell on her knees, all of her stuff fell across and around her in the halls of our school. I was annoyed to see everyone was ignoring her struggle and skipped her past their view to their next classes and I dared to shout their wrong.
"SHE NEEDS HELP! C'MON PEOPLE WHAT HAPPEN TO MANNERS?"
Everyone paused for a moment and were looking frantically around the hall and floors around her. Great another sick joke. How could they do this to person? Everyone?
I ran up to her and helped her with her things. Her pencil bag, notebooks, and her textbooks, carefully handed to. She nodded 'thank you' and I looked into her glorious eyes and helped her up.
Then I felt a hand on my back, the school counselor stood there with a concerned face.
"Sanders, what is going on?"
"These people, Mr. Cruz. They don't help people in need! I had to say something, you get me?"
"Um, Sanders, let's go to my office and talk this out alright?"
"Erm sure."
I entered the room with a strange sensation unfolding in me. What's going on?
"So, Sanders tell me about this person. Who is it?"
"The girl! On the ground."
"Uh huh. Interesting." He pressed his lips together and nodded with a wrinkle forming at his forehead.
"What's the matter?"
"There was no one there."
"NO! I swear! She was real!"
"No, she was not. Look, please understand that this . . ."
I was not listening. How was she not real? They were lying. But the stares the people gave me were genuine fear and confusions wasn't it? No. It can't be.
". . .and I want to let you know I'm here for you."
I walked out of the room and the girl was nowhere to be seen, not for the rest of the day either, she had disappeared from my view. Maybe they were right.
I went home that day to my room. She was there in front of me with a pure white smile, beaming.
No.
But she was.
