Fernando Alonso & Sebastian Vettel : The Story Of Their Rivality in Formula One

Part 1 : 2010, First Battle For Title

It was a first season of their rivality when Fernando Alonso moves to Scuderia Ferrari after his bad season with his former team Renault, scored 26 points last season & just get 1 podium at Singapore while Sebastian Vettel started his second year in Red Bull Racing after joining them in 2009, scored his second win in Formula One & first win for his team in China then scored another win at British, Japan then inaugural Abu Dhabi races & finished the season as runner-up behind Jenson Button who had declared as world champion that season. During pre-season test, they are getting better results on all 3 tests in Jerez. Then on the opening season in Bahrain, Sebastian Vettel qualified on pole while Fernando Alonso just qualified behind his new teammate in Ferrari, Felipe Massa in 3rd place. His efforts on his first race with Scuderia Ferrari makes Fernando Alonso was the one of driver who had battling for title contender in 2010 season. On raceday, Fernando Alonso scored his first win with Ferrari since Kimi Raikkonen do so on Australian GP 2007 while Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel had finished 4th after he was battling for gearbox problem during the race. On next race in Australia, Sebastian Vettel once again qualified on pole position while Fernando Alonso was 3rd once again (this time behind Vettel's teammate, Mark Webber) then on raceday, Vettel was out of the race with wheel issue meanwhile Alonso could finished 4th place behind his teammate, Felipe Massa after collision with McLaren driver & obviously regaining world champion, Jenson Button saw the Spaniard dropped at the down of the field. In Malaysia, The German & Red Bull driver finally scored first win on the season after started from 3rd (his teammate, Mark Webber qualified on pole) while Fernando Alonso was retired on last lap due to engine failure but still classified as finishers. Then in Shanghai, China Sebastian Vettel finished 6th place despite taking pole positions once again, while Fernando Alonso finished behind current race podium finishers, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton & Nico Rosberg after getting a drive through penalty for jumping start saw him lead the race on early stages. Both drivers are finished on podium places in Spain behind race winner, Mark Webber. Monaco was a different story behind 2 drivers, whilst Fernando Alonso crashed on FP3 forcing him to skip the Qualifying stages because his mechanic was unable to repair his car due to badly damage during crash. He later started that race from pitlane instead on last position. But he later emerged with good overtake manouver to finish 7th (which was later promoted to 6th after Michael Schumacher issued with time penalty for overtaking the Spaniard during Safety Car period) while Sebastian Vettel once again finished on podium position behind race winner & his teammate. Turkey was once again a different story, When Sebastian Vettel was forced to retire from that race due to collision with his teammate, Mark Webber while he was leading & missed the chance of Red Bull 1-2 finish in that race & was the first time that relationship between Vettel & Webber began to rise, Fernando Alonso could only finish 8th behind his teammate. On next race in Canada, Fernando Alonso back to podium finish with 3rd place in his hand when Sebastian Vettel just finished behind him on 4th place after a bad strategy costly him to win. Europe race was a moment that was unforgettable while Sebastian Vettel's teammate had crashed into Lotus of Heikki Kovalainen forcing him to retire from the race after patching on the air then hit the wall. Vettel himself was a race winner, while Fernando Alonso could only finished in 8th place after he was complaining to his team due to Lewis Hamilton's overtake to him during Safety Car period which resulted the McLaren driver was given a time penalty for his mistake. On Silverstone (which was being remodelled with a new pit lane that will be used in 2011). Fernando Alonso finished outside of the points after hit with a drive through penalty due to failing to observe the yellow flag during races & angrying to his team after getting his penalty, whilst Sebastian Vettel could only finished 8th after puncture on opening lap saw him pitted early then joining on rear of the field. Then in Germany, it was a race that should be forgotten by Alonso & his team. He won the race after his team was told Felipe Massa (which was leading the race) to give his leading position to Alonso himself while Vettel joining them on podium, Ferrari later was fined $1M due to their action. Next, in Hungary both driver finished on podium after Sebastian Vettel forced to served a drive through penalty for speeding in the pitlane & angrying to his team about his penalty. Belgium was a different story for both drivers. Sebastian Vettel finished outside the points after contact with Jenson Button forced himself to pitting from podium position to midfield runners, while Fernando Alonso suffered first retirement due to collision, He also dropped to back of the field after he was hit by Rubens Barrichello who had drive for Williams. In Italy & Singapore, Fernando Alonso scored another win for his team in both races, The latter race was memorable when he leading until the end of the race & pressure from Sebastian Vettel. In Japan (which saw a race that had couple incidents) both drivers are finished on podium places, meaning that they still had chance to became title contender with 3 race to go. At the inaugural race in Korea, saw Mark Webber leading the drivers standings followed by Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton & Button. It was a bad weekend for both Red Bull drivers, as Mark Webber had crashed with Nico Rosberg & Sebastian Vettel forced to out of the race due to engine failure. Otherwise Fernando Alonso won that races meaning he was leading the driver standings with 2 race to spare. Many people said that Fernando Alonso would became world champion on that season & his 3rd world champion in Formula One, but it was tipped that Sebastian Vettel still had chance to take his 1st world champion & also for his team. Brazil was a good story for both drivers as they finished on podium position despite the pole position has been taken by Nico Hulkenberg (drive for Williams at that moment) on his first season in F1. Last race of the season in Abu Dhabi was a memorable story for both of them. Vettel qualified on pole whilst Alonso was not far behind. During race, it was very memorable. Vettel leading the race for the most of the stages while the leading driver standings, Fernando Alonso find himself stuck behind Renault driver, Vitaly Petrov at most of the stages. Not only him but also Mark Webber get stucked behind the Russian driver. Vettel later had win the race & got his first world champion & also for his team. Meanwhile Fernando Alonso could only finished 7th & ruined his chance to take his 3rd world champion for himself. Then on driver standings Sebastian Vettel lead Fernando Alonso by 4 points.
