"Kaylee get down here and eat your breakfast! It's getting cold!" I hear my mother scold me from my room upstairs.
My name is Kaylee. I have the most normal, average, boring life you could imagine. I have average grades, average friends, average teachers, and I go to an average school.
"Okay mom! I'll be down in a second!" I finally say back as a response. I climb out of bed, phone in hand, and sprint downstairs fully dressed.
"What took you so long to get down here?" My mother asks sternly.
"What do you mean? I got down here pretty fast." I reply confused.
"You were upstairs for half an hour! You usually come down in 20 minutes!" She says, obviously agitated.
I flinch as I let the memory sink in, and I realized my fatal mistake. I slept in this morning. 10 minutes of no phone time.
I quickly ate my breakfast and sped upstairs to my room to clean my face up and fix my outfit.
I run to the front door and yell a quick goodbye to mom as I sprint to the bus stop. As I approach the corner I see Johanah, my childhood friend for life. Her poofy hair bouncing in the wind.
"Johanah!" I scream at the girl with beautiful caramel colored skin, it seems like it's glowing in the sunlight.
"Hey love! How are ya? Why're so late? Its almost time for the bus to come!" She says in her slight natural southern accent.
"Slept......in.......this......morning" I say between breaths, exhausted after running for 5 minutes.
"Oh! Okay! No time for chitchat, the bus is here!" She says as the bus pulls up to the corner.
We hop in and go to pick our seats in the back, only to see them occupied by kids in black jackets. They looked new, but there were too many of them for them to be related, or at least I guessed so. There was about 5 or 6 of them. They spoke in a language I've not really ever heard before.
"Uh sweethearts? You're in our seats to could you just, move?" Johanah asked angrily. She hates when things don't go as planned.
They moved out of one seat and let us sit there, it was very awkward and uncomfortable until Johanah spoke up.
"So, why are y'all here? I haven't seen ya before and I definitely don't recognize your faces. Who are ya?" She asked kindly, still seeming off her cool.
They never answered her.
We got off the bus quickly and headed to the cafeteria where all of the other kids were getting breakfast. When we sat down with our trays I heard someone enter the room. It was the new kids. One of the opened his jacket a small amount and I saw it.
He had a gun.
In less than a few seconds of me seeing it, he pulls it out and aims it straight at me.
