Anyone else I need to thank?

Everything was going so fast I couldn't keep up. I fought every guy that came at me. Thank you dad for those hand to hand combat skills you thought me when I was four.

That was when I was outnumbered eight to one. Asa and Alice had already gotten taken down.

"Aidan it doesn't have to be this way." One government agent in front of me said.

"Yeah like you are going to get me." I smirked and made a circle of fire around me. There was only one open spot that I had made in between two guys. I sprint out of there. Thank you track.

I was leaving Asa and Alice. It felt wrong but I am going to go back for them once I have gathered more knowledge about what's happening and get more stealthy of course. It was the smart thing to do.

I ran out of the shopping center they where still following me. Well I could take more "responsibility" with "great powers" but what is the fun in that? I was on the run who cared. I set the grass behind me on fire. YOLO!!!!!!!!

I had gotten very far ahead of them after that. I was only two miles away from home. I guessed that was the only place I could go.

I keep on running until the thought came to me that is where they would look first. Instead of going home I went to Sophie's window and tapped on it frantically. She slid it open and I climbed inside.

"Will you please help me?" I begged her.

"Why would I not?" she said. She doesn't hate me for not telling her about my powers. "What is up with the costume? Uh never mind."

"Well-"

"One moment." she said. "MOM I'M GOING TO NANA AND  PAW-PAW'S!"

"OKAY BE SAFE HONEY!" her mom yelled back.

"Let's go." she said. "I will go out the front door. I will signal when the coast is clear. Then come out the window."

I nodded.

Sophie left her room and went outside. After checking both ways twice she waved me over. I unlocked the window, opened it, and slipped outside, and ran to her car. I climbed into the backseat and bent over to keep out of sight.

A second after covering up with the blanket in the backseat. I heard the engine roar to life. Sophie must of been a bit scared. She was driving pretty fast. "Sophie slow down you will draw too much attention." I said.

"Right." she said slowing down.

"So where are we really going?" I asked Sophie.

"My grandparents house." she said.

"Why are we going there?" I asked her.

"There is an old tree house that I found and fixed up two years ago. I never told anyone about it until now. I thought it might come in handy. It looks like being quiet pays off. You can stay safe there."

"I have to tell you something before you help me." I said.

"What?" she questioned.

"Your dad." I said. "I just wanted you to know that I had accidentally started that fire. I'm so sorry."

"Aidan White!" She exclaimed. "I told you that he died from a heart attack didn't I?"

"What?!" I yelled. "He died of a heart attack?!"

"I told you that like three days after he passed away." she said. "I think."

"All this time I thought I killed him." I said. "Oh that's a relief. . . I mean your dad was awesome I'm sorry that he passed away, but I mean it's better that he died from a heart attack than your best friend killing him." Smooth Aidan, real smooth.

"I miss him a lot. I think about him every day." Sophie said. "I wish that he could still be here. Still coming to my tea parties. Still going horseback riding in grandma's pasture." she sighed. "You never know what you have till it is gone. But he always told me that you have to stay strong no matter what, it is okay to be sad for a bit but you need to live in the present and think about the future."

"He was wiser than a eight year old could understand at the time." I said remembering all the Shakespearean metaphors he would always say.

"At least he lived till he was fifty nine." Sophie said. "Even if only eight of those years where with me, and I can't remember half of them."

"I'm sorry." I said.

She didn't say anything until we had gotten to her grandparents' house. "We're here."

"What's the plan?" I asked.

"Please! My Nana and Paw-Paw never look outside or go outside. They're old!" She explained. "I will show you to the tree house. Now you can get that blanket off your head."

"Right." I said taking the kitten and puppy dog blanket off of me. Sophie opened my door.

"We better hurry before the government gets on our trail. That's why I parked in the back yard." Sophie explained.

"Right. Let's do this."
