Castiel sat patiently at his desk at Marshfield High School. He had just moved to Coos Bay, Oregon and had to go to a new high school... Again. Why did he have to keep moving? Why couldn't his parents just find a place and then stay there? I am so glad I'm graduating next year. I can leave, go to college, do whatever I want, Castiel thought to himself.
The bell rang and kids came running into the class. They didn't look too excited to be there, but who would? It was school after all. The last person to come through the door was extremely tall and muscular. His hair was a dark brown and curled around his ears. His eyes were hazel but with a green tint. He slid into the chair next to Castiel and held out his hand.
"Name's Sam Winchester. It's a pleasure to meet you," he said, his voice husky.
Castiel reached over and shook Sam's hand. "Castiel," he said. He brought his hand back and put it into his jacket pocket.
Sam set his bag beside his chair and adjusted his body so that he was facing Castiel. "So, you're new here?" He asked. Sam looked at his shoes with a weird face. "I mean obviously you're new here. I'm sorry. I suck ass at small talk."
"It's cool," Castiel said. "I suck at the small talk too."
"Haha, looks like we have that in common. So... Do you need help finding any of your other classes?"
"Um, yes, I do."
"Let me see your schedule."
Cass reached into the small pocket on his bag. He pulled out his schedule and handed it to Sam.
Sam glanced over it. "Sweeeeeet. We have four classes together," he said with a grin.
*********
After what felt like forever, school was finally over for the day. Castiel and Sam walked out to the student parking. Sam looked down at his feet. "Hey, um, if it isn't too much to ask, if my brother isn't here to pick me up in fifteen minutes can I catch a ride with you?" Sam asked nervously.
"Of course, but why wouldn't your bro be here?"
"Well, sometimes he's busy hooking up or at his shop."
"Oh, okay."
A few minutes a black 67' Chevrolet Impala pulled up beside them. You could hear the rock music being played for miles. The passenger window rolled down making the music even louder. From where Castiel was standing, he could see the outline of a buff man. His face was shadowed, so Castiel couldn't see it.
"Sammy, let's roll!" Sam's older brother called out over his loud music.
"Damn, Dean. Could you at least change the music? Or turn it down?" Sam complained as he got into the car.
"Sammy, Sammy, Sammy." A hand reached out and turned down the music. "Driver picks the music, and the passenger shuts his cake hole. Now shut the door, so we can go."
Sam looked over at Castiel and rolled his eyes. "See ya, dude." He slammed the door, and Dean sped off.
Castiel shook his head and unlocked his car. That Dean seems delightful, he thought sarcastically. He started his car and drove off.
When he got home, the first thing his mom did was toss the paper to him. "Start looking for a job," she commanded. "You gotta be able to pay for gas and lunch somehow. I won't be able to do it since we just used most of the money to buy this house, but until you get a job, I can help."
Castiel sat on the couch and looked through the paper. All of the jobs seemed boring. He decided to go with the one that might benefit him the most. Mechanic's assistant. He might be able to learn some stuff for his own car.
