This is a scary story told to me by my older sister, Tilly.

Enjoy!

---

It was a cold day in January. I was babysitting my two siblings Ash and Arkin. They were both five while I was ten. Our mum and step-dad were out for a date night and left the burden of two young children on me.

It was getting late and the kids had to go to bed at eight-thirty so I told them to brush their teeth and get into to bed while I make them some evening mint tea.

I was standing in the kitchen waiting for the kettle to heat up when I heard crying coming from the stairway. I stepped out of the kitchen and saw Arkin standing there, sobbing hysterically.

"What's the matter, bud?" I asked in the sweetest voice I could muster. "Can't sleep?"

Arkin shook his head wildly and sniffled. He mumbled something I couldn't understand. I leaned closer to him.

"I c-can't sleep..." He trailed off.

"Come on Arkin, you can tell me." I cooed, trying to coax it out of him.

"I can't g-go to sleep c-cause than he'll come b-back!" He squeaked. I stood up in surprise.

"Who??" I asked.

"Him."

"Arkin, you're gonna have to explain..." He pulled on my shirt, motioning for me to come closer. I kneeled down to his level. He leaned in and brought his hand up to my ear.

"He comes every night and..." Arkin looked both ways, as if he were checking that nobody was listening. "He watches you sleep."

I stood up and shook my head.

"Heheh...Okay Arkin. Let's get you up into bed." I said nervously.

He hopped onto the top bunk and waved goodnight to his sleepy sister.

"Goodnight you guys. Don't worry Arkin, I'll keep you safe." Arkin nodded and rolled onto his side, reluctantly closed his eyes.

I walked back downstairs and turned on the television. I smiled as I watched my favorite movie.

It had been about an hour before I heard some noises from the baby monitor. We had been keeping one in the living room since the house was so spread out. I leaned up against it and heard it. Footsteps.

"It's probably just Ash sleepwalking again. Whatever." I went back to watching TV until I heard mumbling come from the monitor. I sighed and started walking up the stairs before Ash would wander out of the window.

I cracked open the door and scanned the room. I didn't see Ash walking around...so what was making the noises. I peered into the darkness and saw a figure in the corner, standing motionless. I started to gasp, but quickly thought better of it.

I bounded down the stairs and picked my phone and dialed the police.

"911, what's your emergency?" A voice on the line said.

"There's someone in my house!" I whispered.

"Okay miss just give me your address and I'll send a car over."

I quickly told the women my address and set down my phone. I tried to call mum but she wasn't answering. I decided to go back upstairs and peek into the room again. There was nobody there.

I dashed downstairs and grabbed the largest kitchen knife that I could find and searched the house. Whoever was there before, they were gone.

When the police arrived, they said that they found no sign of a break in or any kind of disturbance, and they blamed it on my imagination. I guided the children back inside, locked the doors, and sighed in relief.

I tucked the children back into bed.

"Goodnight guys." I said, stroking Arkin's hair.

"...You told on him, didn't you?" I stepped back and looked at Arkin, who stared at me with wide eyes. "He always tells us not to tattle."

I took a sharp breath in.

"Arkin, he's not real..." I started.

"You told on him and now he's going to watch you." He said before falling asleep.

I shut off the lights and got into bed.

Let's just say that I didn't sleep that night....

Thanks for reading!

I was on the phone with Tilly for hours getting all these details. It was rather tiring!

Luckily we've long moved out of that house!
