As one may imagine, being the Devil's secretary is... entertaining to say the least. Over the centuries, the deals he has gotten have ranged from logical, well thought out, and worthy; to wild and stupid. Not that Satan complains. A deal is a deal, and he always gets more than he gives. Most people come wanting to cure a terminal illness of their's or a loved one's, or to become the leader of a powerful country. Occassionly, on the other hand, there is someone who makes a deal to win a meaningless competition that will have little affect on their future, or to strike revenge on a singular person. In any case, I can safely say I've seen it all. Just today someone sold thier soul to Satan for a larger... package. I believe the man was drunk off his ass in all honesty.
I've been in this position for centuries. I was born as a human in the early 1400's during the Black Plague. The small village my family lived in was being demolished by the illness. I was lucky to keep a friend for a year at a time. Strangley enough though, while everyone around us seemed to fall ill, my family was left untouched and unscathed, no matter how much we may have come into contact with those infected.
I started questioning why this seemed to be happening when one of my dearest friends, whom i tended to be very physical with, died of the disease. I showed no symptoms of the pague however. Years later, when I was a widow in my early 20s, I learned the truth. Years before i was born, my mother had made a deal with the Devil to keep her and her immediate family safe from the plague. Not thinking ahead, she sold the soul of her first born child. They made an agreement for my mother to keep the child until it was of an appropriate working age for the Devil. I was obviously that child.
When Satan deemed me old enough for whatever labor he planned to put me through, he came to take me away to Hell. I put up as much of a fight as a could, but as a human woman, i was quickly overpowered. With a few tearful final goodbyes to my family, I was taken back to Hell, where I was trnsformed into a demon by a process I have since blocked from my memory and trained to hold my own. I caught on rather quickly and became quite powerful. being the young woman I was, I didn't handle any of this well. Anyone who had the misfortune to come into my line of sight was introduced to my newfound demonic powers. After a period of time unbeknownst to me, I calmed down enough to befriend some of those around me.
I was ripped out of my reminiscence by the shrill ring of a small analog clock reminding me of Satan's next appointment. I rose from my chair and walked down the small hallway to his office. When I reached the large dark colored door i knocked for permission to enter.
"Ah, Catherine. Um, one second," I heard him call from inside, his deep voice muffled slightly by the thick door. After a few seconds of shuffling the door opened for me to walk though.
As of now, his office looked more like a man-cave than an office. In the middle of the room sat a pool-table. It was also furnished with a mini-fridge and a small leather couch matching the large recliner sat in front of a large television-like pool he used to watch mortals and all of their drama, such as what was being shown currently.
"Sir, you have an appointment soon. You may want to get ready for that so the mortal doesn't take you for an old single dad," I sighed, clearing the pool as I did.
Satan smiled slightly as he started to morph himself and the room into a more appropriate form. "Ah, of course. Though, I was rather enjoying that. The man's wife was confronting him about his adultery!"
I sighed once again as the room transformed into a tidy office, fit for the ruler of the underworld. "Yes, yes. I'm sure a scene just is entertaining will happen next week." I helped straightened a few stray papers on the large desk. "Probably the same man too. Humans are fickle like that," I added with a smirk.
"I suppose you are right. He was planning on going to a Vegas drive-through chapel to marry the man. Who's to say he won't cheat on him after that?" He laughs at the stupidity of the man and his situation. "We should expect to see him here soon."
