"That's So Gay!"

I'm sorry but may someone please enlighten me with this joke? Because I'm confused.

Why do boys of this generation think everything is gay???

Or is it only my school?

I would literally just give a boy a purple pencil and another one from across the room yells, "That's so gay!" And I'm here like. "Perdon?"

How the hell. Does that even. Make sense?

There was a time a guy just compliment my bag or something like that and my male friend just goes. "You're so gay!" And I'm just confusseeed

So then I say,"How is that gay? Is everything gay for you all? Since when did gay become an insult? You could look at a tree and that'd be gay. You could touch a fence and you'd call that gay too?"
And they were shook.

I swear what the heck is this generation?

Soon a squirrel will be called gay for picking up an acorn!
