I'm abundantly average. I'm not tortured, a hidden beauty, or any other good girl cliche. I'm Jane. An average girl with a slight talent in science.

Him on the other hand. He was the guy everyone noticed. Jax was your  stereotypical handsome yet annoyingly humble athlete.

Which is why I nearly died of shock when he asked me to tutor him in Biology a few months ago.

Around him I was an awkward mess who made terrible jokes. Which I'm pretty sure he only laughed at out of sheer pity. I couldn't be more relieved on the day of our final study session. I quickly packed my bags, anxious to rid myself of my feelings of awkwardness.

"Before you go," he began "I have two tickets for that new superhero movie this Saturday and I wanted to know if you wanted to go".

"Oh well my friends aren't really into the whole superhero thing so I'd only need one ticket" I said clutching my binder "And I don't want to burden you with the other ticket so it's alright".

"That's okay" he said with a slight smirk "Cause the other ticket would be for me".

"Wait. Huh?" I said.

He let out a heart wrenching laugh, "You know for a smart girl, you're pretty oblivious". My eye brows were still furrowed at him. My brain still unable to process what just happened.

Then, he looked straight into my eyes "Jane, would you like go to the movies with me this Saturday?".

After a long pause I managed to squawk one single word, "Why?".

"Because," he said "I like you".

He was joking. Playing some cruel trick. This was all just some silly dare, a get that awkward one to go on a date then break her heart kind of dare.

"You do understand how this whole thing works don't you?" I said.

"Whole thing?" he asked.

"You know, hot people end up with equally hot people. I mean you're a Zach Morris and I'm just some random perm in the back". He laughed which only added to the heat on my checks. "You don't like me. You can't like me. I'm not your type" I said finally.

"Oh really?" he questioned playfully "I think adorable, smart girls are  definitely my type".

I rubbed my arms and turned my gaze towards the ground, "I'm not your type because I'm not anyone special".

A sigh left his lips as he ran a hand through his curly locks. "Jane" he said earnestly "I like you because you're genuine, kind, and make awesome pop culture references. I like you cause your jokes are unique but they always make me laugh. It's you I like because while everyone else seems to just stare at me, you - can't even look up to see how beautiful you are".

I could only laugh nervously, "Guess I'm not as average as I thought".

He smiled. "I promise you Jane. You're nothing close to average. At least not to me".
