I smiled as my heart seemed to finally be at rest. Genji wrapped his hand around my arm, gently leading me back into the academy.
He's such an amazing individual.
As we entered through the double doors, I notice Angela leaning against the hallway wall, seemingly worried as she fiddled with her fingers. She looked up in response to the sound the doors made as they shut, immediately running towards us and embracing me in an empathetic hug. It was quite unexpected, as I literally was not introduced to her yet, at this moment.
"Are you okay, Hana?" Angela sighed, pulling away and looking at my eyes.
"I'm okay, I'm really thankful for your actions.." I whispered shyly, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear, my eyes darting to the floor momentarily.
"I've reported the incident to Ana Amari, she has ensured me that the situation will be dealt with very professionally and consequences will be placed," Angela erratically said, "Oh, how rude of me! I haven't realised I never properly introduced myself due to this hectic situation! I'm Angela, nice to meet you."
I rise my head slightly to meet her gaze, a bright, pearly smile evident on her face. I genuinely smile in return, shaking her hand, "I'm Hana! Please to meet you."
"We should get to the ceremony, it's about to start in five minutes," Genji announces, looking at his watch. We both nod, making our way to the hall.
As we walked towards the entryway, all our eyes lock on Jack, Gabriel and another girl who we didn't recognise. She was tall, wore a tight, black, lace dress and had her hair down. She had blue lipstick on her lips and her black, straight hair was untied. The two guys turn their heads to see us, standing in our spot, gazing at them in annoyance.
Jack seemed to excuse himself from the pair. The girl continued to talk to Gabriel as he leaned against the wall, his hands crossed, staring at me and chuckling in amusement. I attempted to ignore his passive aggressive gesture, focusing on Jack as he looked towards, his eyes locked on me.
"Hana, I'm really sorry. Can you not be angry at me?" Jack huffed as he placed his hand on my shoulder. I felt my heart race, lifting my head up slightly to meet his gaze.
Why is this happening? Am I catching feelings for him? Why him?
Before I could reply, I see Genji brushing Jacks hand off my shoulder, evidently unamused at his gesture.
"You fucking idiot, stop acting all sincere now. You just emotionally scarred her," Genji semi-yelled at him. Jack seemed to be caught off-guard at his comment, scratching the back of his head as he continued looking at me.
"Hana, do you forgive me?" he says quietly, ignoring Genji's statement as he continues staring at me.
I can't forgive him for what he's done.. but I can't say no.
I nod my head subtly as I scrunch my face.
Why did you do that!?
I could imagine Angela's and Genji's shocked expressions without having to see them for myself. But in all honesty, I knew it wasn't Jack's fault. I was holding a grudge against him for no apparent reason.
Without warning, I feel Jack embracing me into a tight hug. I smiled into his chest as he rubbed my back.
"Oh Hana, I'm so happy we can remain good friends," Jack grinned as he pulled away from me. He briefly waved goodbye to me, turning around and following the other pair.
"I felt like you weren't sincere with your apology, Hana," Genji looked at me, his lips crooked. Angela nodded, approving his belief. However, I shook my head.
"What happened wasn't his fault, it was Gabriel who started it. Also, I don't hold grudges," I smiled. The two glanced at each other, unsure, but they decided to abandon the discussion as we made our way into the ceremony hall.
The ceremony hall was humongous, elegantly decorated. White chairs were aligned in rows in front of the stage, a large podium placed on elevated steps, present in the centre. We quickly made our way to or assigned seats, which were coincidentally right beside one another.
We had a small conversation until we noticed Ana Amari and a few other representatives made their way onto the stage.
"May I have your attention, attendees," Amari announced, silence soon filling the hall as everyone's attention darted to Ana Amari.
"I would like to thank you all for applying to the Academy, and we are sincerely appreciative of your cooperation during the process, for the most part at least."
My eyes went wide as I glanced at Angela, an evil grin plastered on her face as she rubbed my shoulder, "I told you I'd sort it out."
"I'm am shocked and disappointed that we were notified of an incident that occurred between two attendees. Upon inspecting the situation, it is evident that one attendee has prominently broken our rule of conduct," Amari continued, turning her head towards Angela, Genji and I and briefly smiling.
"Due to this, Gabriel Reyes' application will be, conclusively, unaccepted this year. I would ask for Reyes to be escorted in an orderly fashion."
Everyone's eyes turned to the back of the hall, as we watched Reyes being escorted. I briefly smiled until I saw Jack, his eyes glossed over as he looked at me. I mouth 'I'm sorry' to him, afraid I would get blamed. He nodded his head, his face scrunched, mouthing 'it's not your fault.' I turn my head back around to face the front of the stage.
"Returning to the main ceremony, we have concluded that twenty students have been accepted into the academy, with four students making the honour role."
I've heard the honour role is extremely hard to get onto, yet it would be a dream come true if I were to get in.
Amari began naming a list of individuals that have entered, non of which were familiar to me. By the time the first fourteen had been announced, neither Genji's, Angela's, Jack's or my name haven't been called. My hopes began to settle, with the chances that all of us would enter are astronomical.
"The honour role consists of the following attendees: Jack Morrison, Angela Ziegler, Genji Shimada...
I can't believe it. I won't make it, out of all my friends I'll be outcasted.
..and Hana Song. I sincerely congratulate you."
