It was just in complete sheer of curiosity that I decided to head straight home after class and change into more decent clothes before hopping out of my window without my mom's consent. I was still grounded and I was supposed to be a good girl following her rules, yet here I was, standing in front of my best friend's doorstep.
I sent a quick text to Becky to tell her that we're going somewhere far without telling her the real reason why. I gave her the address and she immediately knew where it was like I did when I opened up Calum's note. She caught up to what I was doing and went along with it without asking any further questions.
It was a long walk to her house but by the time that I got there, she was still rummaging through her closet like she always do.
"Hey Sam?" I looked up from my phone and narrowed my eyes at her.
"Yeah?" She took out an outfit and showed it to me by placing it over her body.
"What do you think?" I shrugged my shoulders and continued scrolling through my phone. I was never good at picking out clothes and I never really understood how the fashion world actually works. After a few seconds, I heard her groan and shut her closet door closed.
Finally. I thought.
"How do you plan on getting to Newfox, smarty pants?" I frowned.
"You do know why I'm taking you with me, right?" She let out a laugh and dropped her clothes on her bed before sitting beside me with a grin.
"Because you suck at following directions." It was actually one of the real reasons why I couldn't bring myself to just pack up and leave everybody to start a new life when things get a little rough. I wasn't born street savvy and nor do I try to be. I always tend to take someone with me every time I go out somewhere I've never been, should it be my mom or a friend.
But somehow I knew that if I were to run away from everyone else like I plan to, I wouldn't be dragging somebody else with me.
"And that is why people like you exist in my life, so you can guide me whenever I do dumb shit in my life." She shook her head in dismay.
"There are no 'people' in your life, Sam. I'm the only one you drag into your little adventures." I pouted a little.
"That's harsh." She laughed.
"But it's the truth and I'm going to be real offended once I find out you ran off with somebody else to go on an adventure and eat apple pies in an old diner without me." I shook my head at this.
"I can promise you that I will never, ever, eat apple pie." She grinned at me before going inside her bathroom to change.
It took us almost over an hour before reaching the right address Calum gave me. We got out of the taxi and stood in front of the small yet inviting establishment. The boys were nowhere to be seen but I figured they were probably already inside.
A man with dark hair wearing a pair of sunglasses stood outside with a phone up in his ear. I didn't know him by his face but something tells me I knew him by his name. He had some kind of a stiff and confident stance on him and judging by it, his professional vibes were going off in all directions.
Once he caught sight of the two of us, he immediately hang up his phone and walked towards our direction. He first gave us a questioning look before showing off a small smile.
"Can I help you ladies?" I had no idea what to tell the man honestly. I didn't know if I should lie and tell him that we were lost and couldn't find our way back to the gingerbread house. Or tell him the truth that we were there because we were given an address by a high school student who was supposedly working inside.
