Sirius was dead.
Sirius was dead and there's nothing he could do about it.
Sirius was dead and it was all his fault.
Harry paced around the Gryffindor common room, muttering under his breath.
"I'm gonna go take a walk by the lake." He mumbled in the general direction of Ron and Hermione.
Hermione nodded and made a sympathetic noise at the back of her throat. Harry walked slowly down the staircases, deliberately taking the longer route to avoid talking to anyone. He finally reached the near-deserted lake and sighed when he saw his company. Draco Malfoy.
"Potter!"
Harry ignored him and continued his solitary walk by the lake.
"Potter!" Harry turned round, just in time to see Malfoy reluctantly stride over to him.
'Wow, it must be serious if he can be bothered to get up and move' Harry thought sarcastically.
"What is the meaning of this?" Malfoy snarled holding up a battered copy of the Quibbler.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Harry said innocently.
"My father is being questioned at the ministry because of your stupid little interview. Don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about, Potter."
In truth, Harry had been to an interview with the infamous Rita Skeeter and given her a true account of what happened at the graveyard, including a confirmed list of death eaters which was then published in the Quibbler, seeing as the Daily Prophet refused to publish anything that was true.
"Well, then maybe your father shouldn't have become a death eater." Harry replied stoutly.
Malfoy's wand was out before Harry could even think about what curse to use.
"Don't ever talk about my father like that, Potter! You have no idea what he's like." Malfoy hissed, jabbing his wand into Harry's chest.
"Oh really?"
Malfoy withdrew his wand and shook his head.
"You have no idea....He'll kill me because of that interview.....It's all my fault..." Malfoy murmured, raking a hand through his normally-immaculate now-dishevelled blonde hair.
"How is it your fault?" Malfoy's eyes flashed, and he regained his normal manner of arrogance and rudeness.
"None of your business, Potter. You wouldn't understand."
Malfoy glared at Harry one last time, before stalking back to the Slytherin common room, leaving Harry bewildered next to the lake.
******************************************
Draco stormed into the Slytherin common room, slamming the door shut behind him. Pansy jumped off the sofa, abandoning her potions homework as she leapt towards Draco.
"Dracy-poo where were you? I looked everywhere for you, even the boy's toilets...did you go to the lake?"
"Piss off, Pansy," Draco muttered.
