I sat down next to Dadi and Anjali. Anjali is my dad's sister's daughter, only 8 years old. Deepa aunty and Neelam aunty, Anjali's mom were sorting out clothes and jewelry to give out to the family for some special occasion.
"You see the white salwaar kameez, Didi?" Anjali whispered to me.
I nodded.
"It's the best one out of all of the clothing. My mom said who ever gets that one is the luckiest and the matching black sherwani will be given to the luckiest boy. Don't tell anyone, it's a secret."
This kid is cute, but crazy.
She went back to watching her mom, who was handing out a dress to Naina, who had come back with her parents.
Naina came running to me but my mom stopped her and Naina smiled and walked up to one of the bedrooms. I looked up at Dadi. She was talking to Rahul.
Suddenly I see Naina come out of the room. I got up to talk to her when I see Nick come out behind her. What?! How is this possible? I ran to Naina.
"Hey, Ishika. Where were you?" She asked.
"Where was I? Where were you?"
"Oh..um.." It was fun to see her stammering.
"You were with Nick, weren't you?"
And she started blushing!
"Of course she's going to be with Nikhil," my mom said behind me. "What else do you do besides spend time with your to-be husband?"
Did my mom just say that? I am seeing and hearing the most surprising things today.
"What?"
"Pagal ladki! (Crazy girl!) You don't even know that your own brother is going to be married! That's why we're handing out clothes here!"
"Naina! You didn't even tell me!"
Nick came at that moment and put his arm around Naina's neck.
"She didn't, so I will. I'm getting married to Naina!"
Idiot.
"Of course I know that, Mom just told me! Congratulations! "
"Thanks, sis."
"Ishika!" Just then, I heard Neelam aunty call my name. My turn. I went over to her. I glanced over at Rahul. He was looking at me. The guy has a serious staring problem.
"Yeh lo, beta. Yeh tumhare liye. (Here, dear. This one is for you.) " Neelam aunty said, handing me a white salwaar kameez with beautiful gold embroidery. Wait a minute. Wasn't this the salwaar kameez Anjali was talking about? Stop Ishika. You're getting excited about something a little kid told you. The dress was really pretty though.
"Wow Ishu. That's a really great dress. You'll look beautiful at the wedding!" my mom exclaimed, looking at the dress.
"Thanks Mom." I said hugging her. My mom went off to do some work.
"Rahul!"
Guess it's his turn. Rahul walked up to Neelam aunty who told him something to which he smiled. She handed him a black sherwani with maroon linings and he walked down to Dadi. Well, they look like best friends.
Rahul's P.O.V
"What are you staring at?" Dadi's voice interrupted my thoughts. The girl that had come from New York had just went to Neelam aunty. Her face glowed up when she got the salwaar kameez. She looked so pretty. There was something about her eyes. That afternoon she had run into my room to get her dupatta and I came out of the shower. I don't know why, but my body had a mind of its own and I started walking towards her. She hit the wall and I put my arm up on the wall to stop her from running away. She looked at me with these big brown eyes, just like the previous day when I caught her after tripping.
