Don't think I hate Nigeria

because I don't.

I may not want to be there

or visit there

and I may not like the idea of being there,

but I do not hate Nigeria.

It is my country, after all.

As a kid,

I prefered to deny that fact

but as long as the blood of a Nigerian man

flows through these veins too

I am undeniably Nigerian too.

I felt that being raised with a British culture

and having the blood of a British man in my veins

was what I should only acknowledge

and yes, I am glad for having that culture and that blood

but although the Brit culture will forever prevail in me,

I should not ignore that I am Nigerian too.

You see,

I'm sitting here,

at home,

in the kitchen,

in England

reading about the atrocities going on in my country

Nigeria

and it upsets me.

Not just because my parents are there right now

but because....

why the heck our people messin' with my country?!?

Nigeria was in a dump,

is in a dump

and the way I see things,

will be in a dump in the near future.

But why?

Why is this the case?

The people in power are stealing LOADS

and jailing those that steal little

They are taking MORE AND MORE

and jailing those that have little to nothing

They are being CORRUPT

and killing those who are good

The people meant to protect the nation are ENDANGERING IT

They are destroying the little we have

The things that show development

That show hope

They are PROTECTING THOSE WHO ARE TAKING AND KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE

And a couple of them are the ones TAKING AND KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE

Why?

Someone corrects you and you ignore them

or decide to "take your revenge" on them for being a good friend.

Someone tries to help you and you diss them

because you don't want to accept that you need the help
