"Savannah we're leaving!" I heard my mom call from the kitchen. "Coming!" I hollered back, I raced down the stairs. My mom was waiting at the door, her sunglasses pulled over her wavy brunette hair. She opened the door and I stepped onto the hard, rocky pavement. I climbed into the car followed by my mom, her silky shirt reflecting the light into my eyes. "Ready?" Mom asked. Today was my first day at summer camp. "Yes" I nodded.
"Ok here we are." Mom said as we pulled up to a large camp site with small campfires and cabins sprinkled here and there. "Love you mom" I said as a opened the car door. "I love you too, have a good weekend." She answered before pulling away. The sun was blazing in my eyes as I watched her leave. "Hello, welcome to camp, Sumbereen." I leaped back startled as I heard an unfamiliar voice sound from behind me. "Ah! Huh? Oh h-hello" I turned to see a guy about my age standing there, he had light blonde hair and dark gray eyes. He chuckled before leading me to the main desk. "Hello." I nodded my greeting to a short woman sitting behind a fold up table that had the words 'main desk' on a small metal plate . "Hi! I'm Madison, I'm the main counselor here at camp Sumbereen. And you are?"
"Savannah" I answered
She nodded and mumbled the directions to my cabin, then handed my a sheet of rules and a wrist band. "Next!" She called as I stepped away from the desk.
I took a look at my rules sheet. I was heading in the direction Madison had explained. '1. Never leave camp grounds without permission' it read in bold letters. '2. You only get one serving at the mess hall' I looked up from my paper to see the surroundings. Beyond the camp site look as if it was a large oak forest, with thick brown trees tightly cramped together. This place must thrive with mosquitoes and ticks, I thought, slightly annoyed. I sat my camper backpack on the dirt ground, leaning down and unzipping the top zipper. Where is it, I thought as I dug through the supplies in my backpack. There you are, I pulled out a small green tinted bottle, with a yellow label that read 'Laten's mosquito and tick repellent' I opened the cap, squirting some of the blueish liquid on my hand. I spread it along my arms and legs before twisting the cap back on and putting it back in my backpack. I picked up my rules sheet before swinging my brown leather book bag over my shoulder, continuing my route to the cabin.
I finally reached the cabin. 'Tiger Cabin' it read. Then suddenly a handful of girls about my age ran out the old cabin door. "Hi. I'm Leah!" One said "I'm Summer!" Another called "and I'm Alexandria!" Another one hollered from the back. "Hi.." I look at all three of them, "I'm Savannah." All of them looked completely different, one had lots of freckles and white hair with hazel eyes, another had dark brown hair and blue eyes and the last one had blonde hair with pink tips and green eyes.Time pasted quickly has I got to know the girls I would be sharing the cabin with. Suddenly Madison's voice came through on an installed overhead intercom "All campers please come to the mess hall for dinner" All the girls just sat there and looked at each other.
"Well what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Leah said excitedly and raced off her curly brown hair waving behind her. Everyone of us started to race after her.
We all got in line with large plastic trays in our hands. I looked at the food that was being served. There was a few bowls of chili, spaghetti, a plate of cheese burgers, and a bowl of assorted fruits. I grabbed a bowl of spaghetti and some strawberry's before going to sit down at a picnic table labeled 'Tiger Cabin' I sat down at the end of the picnic table before picking a white plastic fork that was placed in a clear cup in the center of the wooden table.
Then waited for the rest of Tiger Cabin to sit down before starting to eat my spaghetti.
When we where back in the cabin a voice rang through the speaker again. "All campers please get in your bunks, it's time for lights out" I yawned, climbing into my bunk located over Leah's. "Goodnight" I murmured to them switching off the small desk lamp that was set next to my bunk on what seemed like an extended nightside table.
