CAMILA'S POV
The start of senior year had finally come upon us after much anticipation. There were those fighting their way out of the town we lived in, in hopes of pursuing their dreams. Others didn't care about graduating or getting out of here since their parents handed them whatever they needed. I didn't have my dream set up just yet, so I didn't know what was in store after the year came to a close. There was cheerleading, but I didn't think there was much I could do with it in the real world. I could continue throughout college but then again, I didn't even know where I wanted to go. All of my friends knew what they were doing but I was stuck here without knowing what was going to happen after this year was over.
The first day of school was one of the rare days I was allowed to dress in my own clothes and not the cheerleading outfit you would normally find me in. I dressed in a simple black skirt with a gray tank top adorning my upper half. I slipped on some black heels and grabbed my belongings as I finished with my morning routine already. Grabbing a banana for breakfast, I kissed my parents and my little sister on the cheek before I slipped out of the front door to head to school. Part of me was excited for the school year to begin but the teenager in me hated the idea of homework and waking up way too early for a lot of bullshit. Soon enough I found my parking spot and stepped out of the car only to be met with stares and whistles.
This was something that I hadn't missed at all. Cat calls and various people spoke about me like I couldn't hear them. I rolled my eyes to myself and traveled to find my friends where we usually met by our lockers. Lauren, Dinah, Ally, and Normani were already waiting and talking to one another. "Hi guys." I greeted with a smile once I was close enough. Each one greeted me back as I made my way around the half circle to hug each girl. We had seen each other throughout the summer but we were all so close that it was just natural to hug after not seeing one another. I leaned against my locker with my shoulder as the conversation picked up once more. I must have zoned because the next thing I knew, my shoulder was being nudged by Lauren who had a small smirk on her face.
"Look Camz, it's your girlfriend." The raven haired girl nodded her head in the direction behind me. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion but slowly turned around nonetheless. As soon as my eyes landed on who Lauren was talking about, my breath caught in the back of my throat. My long lived crush just walked through the doors of the school, clutching at the straps of her backpack. Y/N Y/LN strode semi-confidently through the hallways, some people giving her dirty looks while others paid her no mind. The taller girl had her headphones placed snugly in her ears while she was dressed in jeans, a black v-neck, and all white Nike Air Force 1's. I could practically feel my mouth begin to salivate at the sight and I became incredibly turned on; more than I would ever admit.
Every time I saw my crush, it was those cliche moments in movies where everything slowed down and all I could see was Y/N. When she was close enough, I lifted my hand in a small wave that was probably way too excited than it should have been. Her Y/E/C eyes glanced over at our small group and then to my waving hand before she continued to walk past us. I sighed and dropped my hand, not too upset with her reaction since I was used to it by now. For some reason, Y/N didn't take very lightly to me or any of my friends, and she was pretty good at letting us all know that. We've all tried playing nice but when she wouldn't take the bait, everyone sort of gave up besides me. I couldn't find it in myself to give up on my crush, there was something that I needed to help her with.
"God you're such a fool for her." Dinah broke me out of my thoughts to let out a short laugh. I knew not to disagree with the Polynesian because she was absolutely right, and our friend group knew it better than anyone. "I think it's cute though. You'll get to her eventually, I believe in you Chancho." Dinah patted my back just as the bell rang to signal for us to head to our first class. I sighed and followed the crowd of students until I came upon my first class that I unfortunately didn't have with any of the other girls. The effects of waking up early were already starting to catch up to me as I walked towards the English class. There were several people trying to greet me while we walked but all I gave was a mediocre smile in return. I didn't really understand this popular gig but I never really did anything to look into it. I tried to not let it get to my head as best as I could.
