Faded

I started as your best friend.
Everywhere you went, I was there. We were there. Together.

I helped you.

I held you.

I played with you.

Together.

Yet, kindergarten started.

You left for school.

It wasn't then I realized our ways had parted.

I was fading.

Ever so slowly, ever so slight.

You were trading.

You didn't even know it.

Your new friends were great.

They made me proud.

But then they made me wait.

They made you hesitate about me, they made you sway.

But I still lingered,

until the last breeze blew me away.
