Hali stood on the sidewalk, sighing.
"Hali!"
She looked up to see her friend Max, running down carrying two ice cream cones.
"Sorry I'm late." She handed a strawberry cone with vanilla sprinkles to her and panted, sweat dripping down her face.
"It's fine. So, how've you been?" Hali asked as Max picked up her mixture of all flavor and all toppings flavored cone.
"Fine, I guess. Weren't we going to go visit Olivia today? I haven't seen her since May." It was now August, and Hali and Max were spending the last few days of summer peacefully before 10th grade.
Hali nodded. "I just saw her last week. We went to White Lake again," she said.
"And that's when you saw Mrs.Credle," Max smirked. Hali rolled her eyes and nodded, taking another lick at the ice cream cone.
They walked over to Starbucks and sat down, waiting for Olivia at a table in the back. Each of them ordered a cake pop and a cupcake frappe. The sunlight beamed from the windows surrounding the shop with beautiful rays of gold.
Max wiggled around her straw. "I guess now that we're about to go into our sophomore years, we need to begin thinking about our careers."
Hali looked up. "I don't know what I want to be. There are a lot of my friends who want to be artists and singers and dancers, but I have no idea."
"I've been thinking about becoming a director if writing doesn't work out."
Hali rolled her eyes. "We all know that, you've said it at least 50 times."
Max looked at her drink.
"Maybe you should go back to modeling."
