"Finally!" I shout holding my new daughter in my arms. "Darcy, I can't believe you're here. You look just like your mommy. Welcome to the world."
"Here give her to me," my wife says holding out her hands. She holds her so tenderly, and strokes Darcy's cheek. "What should her middle name be?"
I never really thought about that, I just wanted Darcy. "How about Roxy?" I ask her.
"Roxy is a bit choppy. How about Roxanne?" she asks, never breaking her gaze at our daughter.
"Roxanne," I say testing it out. "I like it very much. How about you Darcy?" I know she can't answer me, but hey. I think all new dads do that. "Darcy Roxanne Styles, yeah I love it. Hey Elsie is there anything I can get you?" she contemplates it for a minute.
"Just some water please." I race out of the room to get it. Now where's that vending maxhine? Ah yes, here it is. I insert my dollar and thirty cents. I click the Dasani button, and out comes the water. I walk back in keeping my cool.
"Here you go love." I say handing the bottle to Elsie. She grabs it in exchange for Darcy. I hold her an constantly kiss her forehead. Elsie downs about half of the water when Darcy starts to cry.
"Oh baby." She says putting the water down.
"What?" I say shooting my head up.
"Hehe. Sorry Harry, but that isn't you for now." My wife says laughing. "Darcy, she's probably just hungry." She takes her back and slides down her hospital gown. Elsie feeds her for a few minutes and Darcy is out.
"So when can we leave the hospital?" I ask her, sitting down on the bed.
"Tomorrow. All of our vitals are fine, both in good condition so yeah." She says counting her fingers.
"Well good. Then you can see the rest of the renovations." I say poking Elsie's nose. We renovated the kitchen, Darcy's room, and the bonus basement. Elsie and I agreed that it wouldn't be a man cave or anything like that. Just a space with a pool table, popcorn machine, wet bar, huge tv, and über plush leather sectionals.
"I bet it's fantastic." She says in reply. "Did we get the designer for Darcy's room, or will we have to do it ourselves?" this was the hard part. We knocked out a wall so we would have a connecting door. Then we also extended the window wall so she could have a balcony with French doors. This was so she could have a room like girls in movies.
"No. But she gave us some paint samples and pervious designs that she did before." I say fiddling with the remote on the side table.
"That's cool. But I don't want pink, it's too typical and over used. I want purple and grey stripes. Or maybe a city theme. Like the New York sky-line." She says while shifting arms.
"Well that sounds wonderful, " I say as a nurse walks in.
"Visiting hours are over sir. I'll have to ask you to leave. " She says scribbling on a clipboard.
"That means good bye for now, I guess. I lean over and peck her on the lips. I pick up Darcy and kiss her on the cheek. Accidentally, I suck on her for two seconds. Oops.
"Harry, what on earth did you just do?" Elsie asks me as I blush with embarrassment.
"I guess I'll have to get used to kissing a baby, and not my wife." I say cheekily shoving Darcy back to her mother.
"Ha. Well, you'd better go." She watches me leave and I exhale loudly as I leave. A teen watches me with a relaxed look.
"First one?" He says smugly.
"Yeah. You can tell," I ask him.
"Totally." He replies cooly.
"If you don't mind my asksing, how many times have you been here?" he's a teenager. How oils he know?
"This is my fourth." Wait, what?! The hell is wrong with this dude.
"Ready to meet your new brother?" a man asks resembling the teen.
"Yeah yeah yeah." He says grumbling while getting up. "See ya later man." He says giving the awkward still wave.
Oh, I get it. He has four younger siblings. His mom must be really popping them out. I drive home thinking about my new family. Wow, I'm not part of a 'couple', but I'm part of a family.
