*Hey all you Wattpad readers! This is the first story I've posted soo.. lemme know how it is, kay? Hope ya like it! Byee!**
I was shaking with anticipation. My eyes, wide and bloodshot from lack of sleep, flickered to and fro. I was determined to commit as many sights to memory as possible. My best friend since sixth grade, Bri, sipped on her caramel latte nervously. She and I had been driving nonstop for the past three days and tonight we would end our journey.
Tonight, I would be with him.
After finally convincing Danny to allow me to meet him, he offered to take me to a bonfire on the beach. It was the perfect night for such an event. The sky was beautifully clear. The sun had just begun to set, casting gentle shades of orange and pink across it. Moments afterward, the colors faded into a deep black. The night was upon us.
Since sunrise this morning, Bri has been working constantly to calm my nerves. I had been trying to stop her attempts, nearly pushing her away all day. I knew the only thing that could possibly calm me was the night sky. I've always been that way.
The beach swerved into my vision and I squealed in delight. Bri reached across the console of my '96 Ford to pat my twisted hands; a nervous habit of mine. She was shaking and I knew she was as anxious as I was.
The car park materialized in front of us and Bri swung my truck into a wide space. She hopped out and perched herself on the side of the bed of my truck. Knowing she'd wait for me, I lingered longer than necessary in the confines of my truck.
Time seemed to freeze. Emotions flitted through me until I found the right one. I was terribly frightened. I was scared. But I couldn't turn back now, not after we had come all this way.
I reluctantly reached for my phone in the right cup holder of the console. Sliding it open, I located my messages and found Danny's and my previous conversation. I quickly tapped in another message to alert him that we were here. His reply came faster than I expected, saying we were to wait for him at the picnic tables that were on the left once we stepped onto the beach. I replied with a timid 'Okay.'
My feet hit the pavement outside with a thud. Once I joined Bri behind my truck, we freshened ourselves and she pulled me in for a tight hug. Feeling my shaking she spoke comforting words to me, "It's what you've wanted since you were 13. You can do this." She pulled back slightly to flash me a reassuring smile and I offered her one in return as thanks. Hand in hand, we walked to the entrance of the short boardwalk.
When my white Adidas slides hit the sand, reality seemed to float away. My mind was no longer reeling. Danny was my only train of thought. I smiled to myself.
Bri and I found the picnic tables in no time. A blazing orange fire roared ten feet to our left, towards the rolling sea. I let go of my best friend's hand to toy with my other.
Our eyes scanned the dancing crowd for Danny. I thought I spotted his muscled figure chatting with another boy near the coolers. He turned slightly and I knew instantly it was him by the back gage in his ear. Danny's blond hair, light like mine, was spiked on top of his head. His sun kissed skin appeared smooth and my fingers twitched with the urge to touch him. When he laughed, his muscles rippled across his shoulders and down his arms. My heart picked up speed.
His friend moved into view and his curly blond hair helped me recognize him. Alex suddenly nodded his head towards the table Bri and I were sitting at and mumbled something to Danny. After a small wave, Danny turned to walk to the table I shared. My stomach flipped and my heart stalled with every step he took. Before I knew it, he appeared in front of me. He lifted his hand to cup my chin as he angled my eyes towards his own. Those bright blue eyes held hints of fear and hesitation, as well as joy. He was glad I was there.
His sexy lips curved into a smirk and when he spoke, his low voice had me melting under his burning gaze, "Hey loser".
I felt my own pink lips spread into a teasing smile. "Hey klutz," was my response. Thankfully my voice decided to stand strong this time and not quiver the way I had anticipated.
His eyes softened as I watched his smirk transform into a shy grin. His warm hand dropped from my chin. He reached for both of my hands and I gave them to him as he pulled me up to face him. He stood only two inches taller than me, making his height a short 5'9".
I opened the eyes I didn't know I had closed and my heart skipped several beats. His breath mingled with my own. His smile grew when he noticed my blushing at our close proximity. Danny used his thumb to wipe away a tear I wasn't aware of. His attempt was useless, however, because once his motion was completed, the imaginary dam behind my eyes shattered. I allowed my arms to circle around his waist. My breath caught when I felt his warmth. He held me close to him, crushing the tiny about of space that previously existed between us. He rubbed his left hand up and down my back in a soothing manor. I closed my eyes again, wanting the moment to last forever. My own blue eyes remained shut even as he softly spoke, "I never thought this could happen. B-but..," I felt him tense a little, shocked at his own stammering, "I'm so happy it did."
On his last word, he pulled away from me just enough to look into my eyes. I returned his gaze and nearly lost myself in the ocean of sparkling blue. I love his eyes...I love-
My thoughts were interrupted by his silky voice, "I stopped on the way over to get you something." A thousand pictures danced in my mind. What could he of gotten me? He then reached into his left pocket, frowned, and then stuck his hand into the right pocket. A smile returned to his face.
He dropped to the sand, resting his weight on one knee. I was shocked. My thoughts flickered to marriage and how I would have to wait until after college to promise myself to him. I only just graduated college, when he graduated two years ago. Danny popped open a small black box and inside was a gorgeous promise ring. I offered my hand and he took it, sliding the ring onto my finger. I marveled at its beauty. He stood and wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer. I flung my own loosely around his strong neck. He leaned into me, joining our hips together. His lips found my jaw and he pressed small kisses along it. He paused at my ear and nibbled it playfully, causing me to giggle in response. I titled my head back to let him know I wanted more, but instead of continuing, he chose to quietly murmur into my ear, "I'm never letting you go. Someday, I'll marry you and I can't wait for that day to come. I could never leave you babe..." The melodic sound of his voice trailed away as he stood straight again, his eyes meeting mine.
I whispered a mere, "Yes..," and flicked my eyes to his lips and back. He caught the gesture and leaned closer until his lips were on mine. The kiss was gentle at first and then turned hungry. My lips danced with his while I let his tongue massage my bottom lip. I willingly allowed his tongue to explore the rest of my mouth. My own mingled with his and he tilted my head back to deepen the kiss. I tightened my arms around his neck, pulling him closer still. His hands lingered on the pockets of my shorts and I smiled against his mouth. He took this as a yes, and slid his hands under my butt. He then scooped me up and I secured my legs around this waist. Danny moaned lightly as one of my hands grabbed his hair, my free hand still on his neck. His right hand pressed into my lower back while the left played with the ends of my golden locks.
I broke the kiss for a moment to tell him what I've known to be true since my freshman year. "I love you..." His eyes never ventured from mine as he returned my words.
"I love you, Brooke."
