Chapter 6- Giant Puppy’s Revenge.
I have to admit, some events that happened later that day were not my proudest moments. After my half-hearted conversation with Odin, the doorbell rang and a voice shouted, “Pizza delivery!” Of course, I ran to the door, anxious for pizza, and ended up in a cage of slobbery bones. Like I said, I’m none too proud of this. As soon as I undid the lock, Fenrir’s wet, enormous muzzle slammed into the door, and he tramped in, swallowing me whole.
There I sat, getting jostled around inside of the wolf’s massive stomach, wishing that I hadn’t been the one to get the “pizza”. Then, I remembered that we hadn’t even ordered any pizza. Perfect timing, brain. If only I'd realized sooner. I sat there for what seemed like days on end, with random rotting food and debris accompanying me just to make it better. As if I didn’t have enough problems already.
Occasionally, Fenrir would halt to a stop, probably to eat or sleep. A couple of times I heard screaming, but I didn’t really think much of it. One time, I even felt the body around me shuddering as a sharp spearhead came through the fur beside me, but Fenrir dislodged the weapon from his side, and kept trudging around. I even heard a gunshot once, but yet again felt no impact in the journey. What a killer.
I tried repeating the phrase, “See no Fenrir, feel no Fenrir, hear no Fenrir...smell no Fenrir,” but of course I heard Fenrir...and smelled Fenrir. And now that I think about it, I felt him and saw him as well. Great. Just great. I fell asleep, but I eventually awoke to something prodding my back. I felt around, and came out with a knapsack! I fumbled and searched it for food, and came out with a old half-eaten granola bar. Not the best, but I was starving, so I took a big bite.
Also in the bag, I found a bottle, strangely a piece of rope, a sharp stone, and half of an old bumper. What they were doing there, I have no clue. I looped the rope around the bumper and threw it as hard as I could out Fenrir’s throat. It sailed in the air for a moment, then sank into the side of his neck. I heard a deep, pain-filled howl, and the beast stopped moving momentarily. I took the chance, and pulled myself up, and lodged my foot in the side of his body.
I saw blue sky above me, but it was blocked by the hungry mouth of Fenrir. Climbing up, I struck Fenrir’s teeth as hard as I could, and I was free! It felt amazing to be back in the world, and I saw that I was only a couple blocks away from the apartment complex that we were staying in. I groped all the way back to the house, leaving Fenrir howling in the dust, and weakly knocked on the door.
“Henry? Odin?” I called feebly. The door swung open, and there Henry stood. With some other guy. “Carter! We were scared out of our minds!” Henry shouted, embracing me in a bear hug. “Can’t...breath,” I said, slipping out of his tight grip. The guy next to Henry was wearing an odd combination of a greyish blue cloak and a police cap. Casual, right? “Hello, I’m Ullr, the chief of the Asgardian Police,” He announced informatively.
“Hey! Odin! Carter’s back!” Henry yelled. Odin came around the corner of the apartment. “Carter! We were so worried! We even called the police!” Odin stated, gesturing at Ullr. “Anyway, we’re glad you’re okay,” He continued, “What happened?” I told him about what happened with Fenrir, then how I got out and all that. He waited patiently, nodding every few sentences.
Afterwards, we had a big dinner, I had a shower and got some new clothes, and I was settled to continue the journey, back on the road to home.
