Tears were streaming down May's face, 'W-Will he...'
'Wake up?' Michael finished. 'Eventually, yes. But I can't tell you when. Usually we stop injecting the serum when they become tired, but all of it was used. There is no telling how much extra he was given. But he also has his abilities so it is really unpredictable'
May nodded, still crying. 'He'll be ok May. I promise you he'll wake up' Michael said in a comforting tone. He gave her a hug. 'Ok' she whispered into his shoulder. He pulled her away, she looked at the floor. He gently lifted up her chin, 'Look at me.' he saw her dark brown eyes glazed with tears, 'He'll wake up...' he looked at his watch, then back at May, 'I have to go, my break is over. Let me know if anything happens'
May nodded, 'Thank you Michael'
'No problem' he said gently as he closed the door.
May sat at Peter's bedside. She gently picked up his hand, 'You're such a brave boy Peter... I'm proud of you, I hope you know that...'
An hour later Doctor Richard came bursting into the room. 'May! I'm so sorry! I heard what happened' he said giving her a hug. 'Did Michael tell you?' she asked.
'Yes. The police are speaking to James at the moment. They are also speaking to Michelle, afterwards. They might also ask to speak with you. Is that alright?' he asked. May nodded 'Yes'
May looked up at Dr. Richard, his face looked somewhat similar to Michael's.
'If you don't mind, I'd like to assess Peter, to make sure he is stable in his coma' he said turning to May. 'Sure. But I'd like to stay in the room this time.' she said sternly.
'Yes, of course' he said turning to Peter. May watched him cautiously. She wasn't suspicious about Dr. Richard, like she was with James, but she wasn't going to take any chances. After about 15 minutes he was done. 'Everything seems normal. Either me or my brother will come back to check him.', his face turned serious 'If anyone else says they are coming to check on Peter don't let them in, and call either one of us. Okay May? Me or my brother only.'
'O-Okay. Who is your brother?' she asked confused.
'Michael'
'Ohhh. Okay. Yes. You or Michael. Got it'
'Keep me updated' he said as he closed the door.
PETER'S POV
I could hear voices. One was a lady, it sounded very familiar. Another a man, he sounded somewhat familiar too. I could feel a hand holding onto mine rubbing their thumb up and down the back of my hand.
'He hasn't woken up yet! How long?' said the lady, she sounded very worried.
'There's no telling. But he does show signs of waking up, so most likely soon' said the man.
'May, I know you're worried. We are too. But he will wake up. He is a strong boy. He's going to be okay' it was another lady, she sounded familiar too.
'You're going to be okay' I heard a whisper say. It was whoever was holding my hand. Their voice sounded closer then the rest. She was a girl, possibly around my age?
I tried to open my eyes, but it was like they were glued shut. Slowly, as I continued to try, they opened.
(Back to normal perspective)
Peter's vision began to focus, when it did he slowly turned his head to where the girl's voice was coming from. He recognised her, it was Wanda. She was looking at her feet.
'Look up' he said in a weak voice. She looked up in shock. 'Peter! You're awake!'
Everyone in the room turned to face Peter. He recognised everyone's voices immediately. Dr. Richard was the man, then May was the worried lady, and the woman he heard comforting her was Natasha.
May ran over to him and gave him a hug, tears streaming down her face. 'Peter... You woke up...' she said through her tears. She pulled away, smiling at him. 'Please... don't cry May...' he said giving her a weak smile. As he smiled he realised he was being given oxygen through a tube. He looked up at everyone in the room, with a serious face. 'How long was I out?' he asked.
Everyone's expression changed from, happy that he'd woken up, to serious. Peter got frustrated that no one had answered him. Noticing, May replied, now crying harder. 'A-A week...'. Peter sat back. 'Peter I'm so sorry y-' May began.
'I was knocked out for my 18th?' he said, it coming off more as a question. Wanda pulled back the curtains next to his bed, revealing a table of presents, cards and balloons. 'No one forgot... We- We all came. Hoping that you'd wake up...' she bit her lip, trying to hold in her tears, but failing. 'But when you didn't... we -uh- we kept everything aside.' she wiped her tears.
Peter put his tilted his head up, and swallowed. No matter what was going on in his life, May always seemed to make his birthday special. So at least for a day he could forget all the bad stuff and be happy. He remembered conversations he'd had with May.
'It's your 18th Peter! We have to make it special!' she'd say. He would just smile and agree. It wasn't only him who got a break from all the sad stuff, it was her too. She deserved to be happy, after all she's done. Even though Peter wasn't ecstatic about his birthday this year, with everyone gone, he still looked forward to it. Because maybe... he would think, maybe for a day, we can both smile...
He let a tear escape, and fall silently down his cheek.
'Peter I'm so s-' May began gently. he shook his head, 'Don't be. It's not your fault' he said with a shaky breath, 'It's James''
