It had only been 2 hours but August was already exhausted, it was already 11pm. There was a nearby motel that she stopped at.

It was tiny. The walls were covered in emerald moss and vines, hiding the poorly painted place. She walked in, scoping out the reservation room.

"Hello there." The desk man crocked, he looked like he was in his mid 30's.

"Hey, I'd like to get a room for the night." She responds.
"Sure, we're having trouble with space at the moment so you're going to have to share. That will only be £10 for a night." He grins while staring into her verdant eyes.
"What do you mean share?" She questions back.
"Don't worry, I've made it £10 cheaper for you." He holds out his hand for the money.

She hands him over $10 and he returns it with a key.

She walks up to door 7, slipping the key into the slot. The door creaks open as she trembles into the dark room.
"What are you doing in here?" A man with a deep voice echoes from the back of the room.
"The man at the front desk said I had to share this room, they've ran out of space. I can ask for a different room if you'd like." She replies frantically, not wanting to share a room with this guy.

"No, it's fine I'm only here for the night. I'm Devin." He steps out of the shadows to get a better look at her.

"Me too, August." She nods back. Luckily there were 2 beds so they didn't have to share that.

"I'm just going to get dressed." He denounced, walking into the bathroom.

Once he's gone, August let's out a deep sigh. She places her bag on the bed and gets out some pyjamas she packed. Shorts and a tank top, the most reviling clothing she owns, she gets dressed quickly while Devin's gone.

Her scars and cuts were clear to see, sticking out like a flag. Devin comes out, gasping at her bruised body.
"What happened to you? We're you in a fight or something?" He questions coming closer to check out the injuries.

Before she could answer a large violet and ruby mark appears on her right thigh causing her to wince in pain, eventually yelling.

Devin's eyes widen to the sight he had just witnessed, "what the hell is wrong with your body." He whispers loud enough for her to hear. "Are you possessed?" He yells making August jump.

"No!" She wailed back, all her cuts and bruises beginning to sting like wasps.
"What do I do?" He grilled, panic taking over his eyes.
"Just calm down, okay? You're stressing me out" She huffs under her breath.

After a minute of silence, August breaks Devin out of his trance. "How am I supposed to get to St. Markindale if these keep on popping out." She whines tilting her head back in stress.

"Why did that happen?" Devin gets ahold of her arm gently to get a closer look at the wounds that ran along her arm.
"I don't know, they started when I was 14. It doesn't matter you don't need to know." She snaps yanking her arm out of his grasp.

"I feel like I do, I just watched a contusion appear out of nowhere. I'm a bit freaked to be honest." He chuckles dryly.
"Sadly, that's all I know about them. Doctors have no explanation for it. That's why I'm going to St. Markindale hospital. They could give me answers." She shrugs, holding her hand over her new bruise.

"That freak house? Don't they experiment on ill people in there?" He grins, making August frown.
"That's not true." She snaps again.
"Yeah sure." He rolls his eyes while sitting down next to her.

He suddenly gasps. "I've got an idea. You have a car right? I'm heading to Crail, which is on the way. Why don't you take me with you and I'll help you out if you get more injuries." He Exclaims. August draws her eyebrows together.

"Are you serious? I don't even know you. You are not coming in my car." She glares at him not believing the words coming out of his mouth.

"Who else have you got? What happens if your arm starts bleeding in the middle of the road? You're going to crash." He smirks trying to persuade her.
"I'm tired, I'll think about it in the morning." She huffs out, only wanting the conviction to be over.

Devin leaves it at that and gets in his bed, August does the same.

Daylight brings the room to life allowing sight to every mould spot and all damp corners inside. August wakes up before Devin, she tip toes into the bathroom to wash her face and do her business.

She slips back into her clothes from last night.

"So are you taking me with you?" Devin yawns making August jump and turn in disgust.
"Are you still on about that?"she crosses her arms over her chest with a frown.

"You're not coming with me." August huffs while putting her clothes back into her bag. Devin gets up and makes his way to her side.

"Ok, I don't normally do this but... Please take me with you, I've lost all my money, I've lost anything, I just want to get home to my mom." He puts on his best puppy eyes for her.

She glares at him with a frown. "You don't normally ask nicely?" She grins, putting her backpack on.
"Did you just ignore my explanation?" He frowns at her. August grunts and frowns.

"Fine. But that's only because I care about mothers." She huffs making Devin smile.

Nothing wrong with a little company.
