Chapter 1
It was hot.
My brother and I sat in the waiting room of the hospitals delivery room waiting for our momma to come out.My brother Corey sat quietly in my grandma's lap,his two year old mind drifting off into dreamland.I sat in the chair beside them,my legs dangling over the edge and my head resting on Grannys arm.I was tired and hot and it was waay past my bedtime,not to mention I had missed my nap.I was only four.
I looked over to the door and saw a nurse gesturing us over.She brought us down a hallway,bleached white and filled with cries of babies.The nurse opened a door at the end of the hall and let us pass through.My momma was sitting up in bed,cradling a bundle of blankets in her arms.I approached the bed and peered over the edge.
"Hey Quinn.I want you to meet your new baby sister,Mary."she said,showing the face to me.It was pale and large.I thought she kinda looked like an alien.But then,she opened her eyes.Big,beautiful blue eyes.And she smiled.I smiled back.
"Hi Mary.Im your big sissy Quinn.Im gonna pertect you from now on,kay?"I said,stroking her little cheek.It was soft.She was a miracle.
She was our miracle.
