"You have to have something in here!" yelled Amber.
This was the hundredth time she had said that, and this was the hundredth time I was going to say, "Everything I have is in there, and I'm telling you this black dress is completely okay".
"Yeah, it's completely okay if you want to go to a freaking funeral!" screamed Amber.
"Alright, I've had enough of this. Amber get out, I'll deal with this" said Veronica getting off of my bed and pushing Amber out of the way to get into my walk-in closet.
She came out with a black net top with thin straps and a light pink skirt with rose images that went a little above my knees. Veronica had a huge grin on her face as she proudly held the two pieces in front of us. Amber gasped.
"It's....perfect" whispered Amber.
"Well I don't know, I mean do you really think that I should be showing off so much skin? I think that we should be a little more cautious. I mean what are the odds that we are 100% safe? And-"
"Shut up Emma" said both my friends at the same time.
"What!" I exclaimed. "It's better to be safe than sorry".
"Well I am sure that you and your friends will be absolutely safe at this party, besides-I trust you sweetie," said my mom.
My mom and dad were divorced, and that was because my dad had an affair with another woman. My mom was devastated by the fact that he was gone, but moreover the fact that he had left her for somebody else. I was too, since he was my idol, but my mom was no less. She was a famous author for her book on the five rules of life. Basically, it was her life story, explaining how she went from trauma to acceptance. I found it super cheesy, but hey the people loved it. My mom went through a lot, but she always gave me the best of everything. She is my hero.
I smiled as she stepped inside. She was a complete opposite of me. My beautiful mother had ear length hair, that was a perfect shade of golden blond. Me on the other hand, had a dirty hazel blond shade which was exactly like my fathers. I was slightly taller then my mom, and a little bit more on the...heavy side. But I didn't mind, since I had the brains. Yup, I was a topper for basically all of my subjects. The smartest of the smartest.
"Thanks mom" I said as she gave me quick hug.
"Your welcome honey, but I gotta run. I have another interview for my book with the local news channel, and I don't want to be late. Get home safe, and make sure to take everything with you before you leave home" said my mom.
She winked at me before she left, and I waved good-bye.
I turned back to my friends who were leaning on top of each other in annoyance, and boredom. I sighed, and took the outfit that my friends had picked out for me.
"Don't make me regret this" I said before going into the bathroom to change.
*********
The sight in front of me was no less than a night club. People who I didn't even know, and was pretty sure didn't go to our high school were drunk on the front porch. There were too many girls with as good to nothing on, and too many guys ogling the girls with drunk eyes.
"Well, isn't this a pleasant site?" I say sarcastically looking at the brunette who just puked in front of me.
Turns out I was talking to myself, as my friends seemed to have found other ways of enjoyment. I sighed to myself and walked into Diana's house. It was gorgeous! There was a maple wood flooring all around the kitchen, and the living room had a beautiful cream colored carpet. There were luxurious curtains that hung from a gigantic window, and then there were french doors leading to the back yard. This place was no less then heaven.
My eyes widened as I saw who was standing outside in the backyard. Well rather he was sitting with his guitar with young women all around him humming along to his song. Jeremy Williams, my kindergarten, elementary and high school crush. He was a fairly tall and sleek boy who had an amazing talent of singing and playing the guitar. I leaned against the white pillar in front of him and didn't realize when I started humming along as well.
Suddenly the song stopped and he stood up to make his way to the kitchen. I stood up straight again and waved my hand, but he didn't notice me. But he sure as hell noticed my friends. Well I mean that's what always happens, but I never minded. I guess I sort of liked him like this, when he didn't know who I was and I was sort of the odd one out. I smile and walk over to my friends. They looked like they were having an important conversation, so I decided to walk over to the food stand.
I had just finished putting some chips on my plate when, guess who, came by.
"You know it's so obvious" said Wesley.
I turn to look at him and say "What?".
"That you like him" said Wesley pointing towards my friends and Jeremy.
"Oh! Umm....you knew" I said suddenly staring at my hands.
"Of course I did!"
I smiled up at him. I always thought Wesley to be a dumb, well, idiot who just had good looks. Turns out he could really read people.
"And it also seriously looks like he isn't interested in you. Well I mean it actually looks like that he doesn't even know who you are" said Wesley bluntly.
My smile faded in an instant, and my previous analogy seemed to fit in perfectly.
"Oh I get what your problem is!" said Wesley.
"What?" I asked.
"Oh come on, you're like the best friend every hot person has so that lovers can make their way to them. Just to tell you their usually ugly and fat" he smirked.
My jaw dropped open. Did he just call me fat and ugly!
Wesley turned so he was facing me completely and said something I wished I never heard.
"Look I'm not saying your fat-fat, just...healthy. And you are friends with two of the schools hottest girls, and how many times has a guy talked to you to...well talk to you? I'm one hundred percent sure that they always asked you about Amber and Veronica. That's why you're... designated, yeah that's the word. In simple terms you're easily approachable unlike those two over there. You have to make moves to get to them, unlike with you. Do you get it now?" Wesley asked with complete innocence.
The thing was though I wasn't really able to see the innocence in him. My head was way over heels in anger, frustration, sadness, and most of all shock. Somehow, and in some horrifyingly stupid way...Wesley was right. I never noticed until now, but maybe the reason Jeremy never noticed me was because he didn't know I existed.
Wesley snapped his fingers in front of my face and I was brought back into reality.
"Hello? Earth to Emma, I asked you something. Do you get it?" he said.
That did it! I don't know why but I snapped. I grabbed the chips bowl and threw it at Wesley pouring the dip on his shirt along with it. I didn't realize when my hand tipped over the jar. Wesley stood with his hands up in the air, and with a face of shock. I turned around abruptly and started for the door. Numerous people who I knew, but again who didn't know me were laughing at the commotion.
Warm tears started to pour down my cheeks. Oh my god, was this really who I was. A designated, fat, ugly, and easily approachable friend? Something told me this was going to be a long night.
Alright guys! So I was going to apologize for the really, really, really overdue chapter but I'm not. Everybody has a life, and guess what so do I:)
I had exams, and now I have online summer school so I can't promise when the updates will come. But they will. I'm not going to give up on writing, so just bare with me.
Anyways this chapter is pretty well written according to me. It brought in everything I wanted to.
