Carson Pauhls stood in the farthest corner of the gym, her dark blue t-shirt going just below her waist as she tugged on the end nervously, eying the other people scattered around the room. There were the obnoxious jocks, the flirtatious cheerleaders, the nerds, and the loners. Then there was her.
She didn't fit in with the other groups; the jocks were too loud for her taste, the cheerleaders too pretty to approach, the nerds too chatty, and the loners were just too broody. She's what everyone was calling a "No Lable," meaning she didn't fit in with anyone at school and most definitely wouldn't fit into society.
As she was about to turn around and hide in the locker room, the teacher, Mr. Udovich, spotted her and gestured for her to move along before he blew his whistle, stopping anyone in their conversations and instantly moving to stand on the black line as the teacher explained the game and gave them partners.
The game they were playing was pickleball. It was at this moment that Carson noticed all of the nets scattered across the court.
As the teacher got to the end of the line, the people already partnered chatting excitedly, Carson couldn't help but realize that she was standing next to the new popular girl, talking to two of her friends.
Her name was Shein Deilnack, but everyone calls her Angel. She only joined the school at the start of the semester, and Carson could tell why they called Shein "Angel".
Her long strawberry blonde hair was in a side ponytail that ended just below her collarbone, looking great with her lightly tanned complexion. Her turquoise eyes shined bright every time the light reflected off of them. She wasn't tall, but she was taller than Carson by a few inches.
As she watched Shein, her dark cheeks began to heaten up. She placed her hands on her cheeks and she shook her head. It was then that the teacher decided to choose a partner for Carson.
"Carson Pauhls is going to be partnered with... Miss Shein Deilnack."
As soon as the words left his mouth, the entire room went silent.
Shein stopped and turned towards the teacher, her brow raised, before she saw Carson and her grin from earlier widened.
Please let this nightmare end! Carson's mind went crazy as Shein waved bye to her friends and turned to Carson before gently grabbing her wrist and dragging her to one of the many paddle baskets were.
~Shein~
During the game, Shein kept staring at Carson she realized that she's never noticed her until now. She analyzed the strange girl.
Her light bronze skin shone like that of a shiny new penny under the lights. Her long crimson hair was unruly and was put up in a high ponytail, ending below her knees.
They didn't know it at this moment, but they were going to be best friends and even more in their not-so-far complicated future
