CHAPTER EIGHT

2 weeks.

That's all the time I needed to solve the case. Only a day has passed since, and I'm reading the file, once again, for the 5th time. I had to fully understand everything about the situation, interviews, answers, and questions before I actually start investigating further more.

I sat down on a bench under a tree in the park. No, I didn't usually do this. Whenever I'm solving something or studying, I preferred to do it inside. But I figured that nature would freshen my mind up a bit, make it work more accurately and feel alive. I flipped the page.

As I continued to read, my hand made its way inside my pocket to pull out a cigarette, along with the lighter. As my fingers on the other hand trailed across the line I was reading, the other lit the cigarette. I've never had a bad feeling about my cases and assignments, and the same goes for this one. This was as simple as my previous experiences.

I didn't bother to look around, since I'm more than willing to concentrate. But I couldn't help but blink a few times and do so, feeling my eye itch because of my contacts. When it felt a little better, I decided that maybe I should just get glasses. Anyhow..

This file is about an apartment, unexpectedly burning down. There are currently no main suspects, as no one was reportedly seen suspicious in any of the CCTV records. Though, I take everyone as a main suspect. The visitors, the staff, the owners, the police..

When solving a case, I didn't trust anyone but my fellow comrades and myself. No matter how uncomfortable it did get, I didn't even trust mercy. Above all, I work for justice. It didn't matter if you are rich, or poor-- right is right, and wrong is wrong.

'Snap!'

I blinked away the flash from a camera. I immediately closed the folder and looked up at whoever took a photo of me. At any case, they have to delete that photo; as it was exposing the file. Talk about invading privacy. My eyes narrowed, and found myself looking at a familiar person.

Jungkook lets his camera drop around his shoulders as he waved at me. I sighed, "You should delete that photo." I pointed out, and he shrugged, sitting beside me to show me the photo. Unfortunately, at this time, I had no idea he was taking pictures, so you could see how concentrated I really was. "What? But it's a nice photo."

"It's nice, yeah. Delete it." I pressed, and he pouted, but ended up deleting it. He then laid back on the bench, "What are you reading?"

"I'm studying." I lied, putting the file back in my bag. Another rule when it came to these, nobody needs to know. "What're you doing here? Just decided to go out of the apartment to take some pictures?" I questioned, driving the topic elsewhere.

"Ka-ching!" he clicked his tongue and pointed at me like a kid. "Great guess! I did go out of the apartment to take some photos." I sighed again; even if we've known each other for quite a while, I still couldn't get used to Jungkook's childish nature. It wasn't bad, but I just wasn't the type or person to be friends with people like him. But now that we're here, I guess he's an exception.

I blew out some smoke and took out the cigarette from my lips, throwing it inside the trashcan nearby before standing up. "I'll be going now."

His eyes widened, and he stood up as well. "Whaaat? But I just got here." he says, following me as I proceeded to make my way out of the park. I shrugged and pocketed my hands in my jacket, "That's sad. You should go take some more photos."

"You wanna know why I'm here in the first place?" he questioned, though saying it as if it was a statement of some sort. He manages to catch up with me, "Because my hyungs are busy," he said, stopping. I cocked an eyebrow, but continued to walk. "And it was boring."
