i wake up to the sound of my phone ringing . i look at the caller ID , gus' mom . i close my eyes , my heart sinks . everything inside me collapses . i finally pick up the phone , with shaky hands ,
"hello ?" i say after what feels like forever .
"hazel ..?" i hear her say.
"is gus alright ?" i say worried .
"hazel -" she starts crying .
"hes gone , isnt he ?"
"oh , no .. he survived , they did some sort of surgery , and he survived , he survived " i could hear her smile .
i fall into my bed , so relieved , so happy .
"it was like a miracle " she said .
a miracle , yes .
" this is..." i couldnt find the right words .
" outstanding , wonderful , amazing , relieving "
she finished .
"yeah" i replied .
" well , i think you should get to sleep now , come and see gus in the morning ?"
" alright , good night " i say.
she hangs up. i put my phone on my night stand, i smile , and smile .. my parents come in my room .
"you okay ?" my mother asks
" yeah" i say
"so what happened ? " my dad says concerned.
" gus lived " is all i say .
" thats wonderful " he says back smiling .
"okay , get some sleep. goodnight honey " my mom says.
"okay , night " i reply.
after a while , i finally fall asleep .
