"You may begin now ZuZu. Also the mentors will be Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch. They will be permitted from their rule of not leaving the district, but will be sent back home directly after the games " said Cray. He stepped back from the microphone. ZuZu fluffed her dress and walked up to the microphone once again.
"As always, ladies first!" she pepped. She walked over to the big glass bowl. She dug for a little bit then picked one and came to the microphone. Adrenaline pumped through my veins. She opened the paper and leaned towards the microphone.
"The female tribute from district 12 is," she said and looked at the slip of paper. I clenched my fists tightly.
"Rosemary Everdeen," she shouted through the microphone. This was not fair, I couldn't have been chosen at random. Out of the thousands of names, she had to pick mine. Wow, being the daughter of a rebel is fun. I began to walk up. I saw tears in my parents eyes. The peacekeepers stood around me and grabbed my skinny arms. At least I may have a chance of winning with all the practice I have had. But one slip up, I'm done. The competition would be high above my level though.
"Come on kid," growled a peacekeeper. I didn't even realize how slow I truly was going. I felt two hands grab my arms tighter to speed me up until we got to the stage. Once we did, the stood by the stairs and gestured for me to go up. I stood up on the stage next to ZuZu.
"Good luck to you Rosemary," said ZuZu with a nod and smile. "And now for the men!" ZuZu walked over and grabbed a name. I turned around and looked at my parents. They both gave me a strong look of sympathy. I saw tears rolling down both of their cheeks.
"Our male tribute is Hagan Everdeen," announced ZuZu. This is when tears actually began to roll on my cheeks. Right as the guards grabbed him, I heard a voice shout out.
"No! I volunteer!" I heard the voice shout. I looked over. It was Devlin.
"No! I do!" I heard another voice shout. It was Taddeo. Devlin and Hagan were both escorted up on stage.
"Alright, in the event of more than one volunteer, we choose the person who first volunteered so, you may go," said ZuZu with surprise in her perky voice, looking towards Taddeo. That meant it was Devlin.
"What is your name?" asked ZuZu.
"Devlin Everdeen," answered Devlin.
"Wow, we have some brotherly sister conduct!" exclaimed ZuZu. "May I ask a question?"
"Yes," I mumbled.
"Are you the children of Katniss and Peeta?" ZuZu questioned. We both nodded confidently.
"Enough of that, get 'em to the rooms," demanded Cray. ZuZu nodded and then peacekeepers came up behind us.
