The peacekeepers lead me through confusing hallways until we reached a door that read REAPING TRAIN ENTRANCE. They opened it and removed my handcuffs and pushed me onto the train then closed the door behind me. The room I was in was enclosed. I hoped for something more luxurious, but this was nothing more than a prison. I looked around., and saw nothing but a door. I tried to open it but it was locked. I yanked on the door as hard as I could, but the door still wouldn't budge. Then the door I used to enter opened again. The Peacekeepers helped Devlin up."Devlin!" I exclaimed. I embraced him. He hugged me back.
"Are you alright Rosemary?" he asked cautiously. He placed his firm hand on my cheek.
"I'm fine, are you okay" I asked.
"No," he whispered.
"What did they do to you?" I asked. "Are you hurt?"
"No, they chose my baby sister at her first reaping," he said, seeming like he was about to cry.
"Why did you volunteer?" I asked, ignoring his first comment. Yes, I was upset. But I knew I couldn't cry.
"To protect you and save Hagan!" he answered, sounding as if it were obvious.
"It was either going to be me or Hagan and I knew Hagan wouldn't be able to protect you as well as I," he explained.
"What do you mean?" I questioned,
"Well, your a 12 year old girl and you shoot better than he does," he said.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"Rosemary, I did it for you please don't ask any more questions!" he vocalized. Then, the door next to us opened.
A miraculous scent entered my nose. I looked around. Beautiful sky blue paint plastered the walls. More of the soft stuff filled the floor in a grey color. Gorgeous gold tables and couches filled the room. And the food! Loads of exotic food filled tons of plates and platters. I saw ZuZu sitting on a coach, adjusting her bright purple makeup.
"Oh hello!" ZuZu exclaimed as she saw our faces. I could tell Devlin was still angry but I was in love with all of this.
"Hi!" I pepped. Even though I knew I was in for a death game, I thought I may as well enjoy my last few moments of life.
"Isn't this train wonderful! It is the newest model," ZuZu explained to us. I stoked the silk table cloth.
"It's miraculous," I whispered. ZuZu chuckled.
"The mentors we be in soon," ZuZu said.
"You mean our parents," I corrected.
"So they are your parents! That Cray guy never let me finish!" she complained, rolling her eyes.
"He would have blown you away if you would have said one more word," Devlin snapped.
"Devlin!" I scolded. ZuZu gave him a confused look and then turned back to me.
"Anyways, dinner will be served around six," ZuZu announced, still somewhat offended.
"Okay," I answered.
"We are having a real feast, your mother's favorite!" ZuZu added.
"Good to know," Devlin added. I shook my head at him, irritated.
"Well, have a seat while you wait for your mentors, I mean parents," said ZuZu. Devlin and I sat down. I stroked the velvety coach. Then the car door opened.
