"So where exactly is your car again?" Melanie asked as we sat seated at a nearby restaurant.
"I left it at the boutique."
"Boutique?" A wide grin slowly started to make it's way acorss her face and I silently thanked God that Melanie quickly overlooked the car issue.
"What did you get? Is that it? Let me see!" I snatched up the little pink bag near my foot just as she started to reach for it.
"Ah, ah, ah. It's not for you, it's for..my mom."
She frowned a little, "Olivia? You guys never buy each other Christmas gifts, your dad usually just buys her an island or a planet."
I shrugged my shoulders, "We're trying something new this Christmas."
She nodded her head understandingly, "So since the gift isn't for me I should be allowed to see it then."
She reached for the bag once more, causing me to pull the bag further behind me and accidentally hit the waiter as he came to take our order.
"Oh! I'm so sorry, love. I didn't mean to hit you, I hope I didn't hurt y-"
He laughed as he put his hand up to cease my babbling. "It's fine, I hardly felt it."
I scoffed, "I'll have you know I pack a pretty hard punch."
Melanie obnoxiously cleared her throat, "Yeah, if you two are done flirting I'd like to place my order before I die of hunger."
Embarrassed, I hid my face behind my menu, feeling the warmth of my blush coming on.
"Oh, I'm sorry. What would you like to order?" The young waiter pulled out his notepad & pen and stared expectantly at me.
"Over here," Mel said as she pointed at herself, "I'm the one ready to order, so if you could take your hungry eyes off my friend long enough to take my order that'd be great." She shot the waiter a sarcastic smile as he reluctantly peeled his eyes away from me to look at her.
"What can I get you?"
"I'll have the chicken Alfredo while Mona here will have the shrimp scampi seeing as how she's suddenly too shy to order."
The young waiter turned back at me, "Mona, huh? Never heard that name before."
I looked down at my menu, "It's actually Ramona." I said in a quiet whisper.
"You've taken our orders so why exactly are you still here flirting instead of getting our food?"
I shot Melanie a dirty glance but she seemed to pay no attention to it. I smiled apologetically at the man as he walked away.
"So how exactly are you planning on getting to work tomorrow if your car is still at the boutique?"
I stared at her blankly, I guess I hadn't really thought about that. Noticing my silence, Melanie decided to take the chance to ask the question that I know she's been dying to ask.
"Why exactly did you leave your car there again? You never did tell me."
Choosing to ignore her second question, I answered her first one.
"I'll probably just call a cab to drop me off in front of the boutique so I can get my car. Then I'll just drive to work from there. I mean, I have to pass by the boutique anyways on my way to work, so it won't really be a problem."
Catching the hint that I didn't want to answer her second question she dropped the subject. "Why pay for a cab when you have a best friend that's willing to do it for free?"
