"Aish, where is she?" grumbled Chaeyoung in a low voice, only the pebbles could hear.
Bored, she gently kicked some just to see them rolled away. It was oddly satisfying, so she continued to kick more to pass time. The lamp post watched her weird antics from the sidewalk.
It was already seven ten in the evening. Flakes of snow falling from the velvet night sky. The stars coming out to play hide and seek. Despite of the severe cold, Son Chaeyoung was pacing around the same spot for half an hour at the park, the occasional blare from the distant traffic of the bustling city. She badly wanted to leave, go back to her cozy apartment and wrapped herself in layers of warm blanket, rather than exposing herself to the harsh winter of Korea. For God's sake, the weather forecast marked zero degrees but this was something more important than her general well being. The thought of tonight was enough to cause her anxiety. Heck, she had gone restless for days. No amount of pebble kicking would contain her giddiness.
Glancing at the empty park, her heart skipped a beat as she caught a glimpse of a tall slender figure sauntering towards her. The night was dark enough to play games with her eyes, all Chaeyoung could see was a lone shadow. Is she the one she's been waiting for?
Just when Chaeyoung was about to call out to that shadow, a sweet ringing voice like the sound of Christmas bells pierced the silent night, "Chaeyoung-ie, is that you?"
It was all she needed to know it was the right person. The person who lurked into her bittersweet dreams, the person who was most precious in her heart, the person she missed so much it hurt.
Grinning, she yelled back, "Yeah, it's me!"
Without further ado, the person took off in a sprint. Amused, Chaeyoung laughed at the sight of the clumsy figure. As soon the person came into her view under the light, her laughter quickly turned to awes of wonder. That face showed no hint of clumsiness. Only pure perfection and elegance. The most beautiful face on the planet that never failed to render Chaeyoung speechless. She took her time to mesmerize over the girl's ultimate beauty. She was still the same as Chaeyoung remembered, but not quite: Her new short chestnut brown hair fell straight to her jutted collar bones, almond shaped face, pink lips that formed a cute pout, the tiny cheeky mole on her straight nose bridge and a pair of twinkling crescent eyes.
Chaeyoung mentally shook her head, disapproving the fact that the girl had gotten thinner. She thought, "Did she not eat well? I must feed her."
The girl did not shy away from Chaeyoung's awestruck gaze, instead she let her had her moment before she nudged her, "Quit checking me out, let's go. I'm starving!"
As much as she wanted to admit that she really was checking her out, Chaeyoung only frowned, "I'm deeply hurt. It has been years, but no hug for your best friend? Goodbye, Myoui Mina," she turned around her boots, and pretended to walk away.
Laughing, Mina caught her by the arm and squeezed her friend from the back, "You're so childish, Chaeyoung-ie," she even pecked her on the cheek and apologized, "There, happy now? Please don't get angry at me. I'm sorry I'm late."
Chaeyoung froze. Her cheeks turned scarlet. She and Mina were friends for so long, skinship was something they've gotten very used to but they never went further than hugging or holding hands. Mina was always the one who initiated these gestures. This seemingly innocent kiss meant so much to Chaeyoung, sending her into an emotional turmoil. She was pulled back to reality when Mina broke off the embrace. She sighed at the disappearance of the warmth.
