Sunday 20th January 2012, 6.51pm

Zana woke to the sound of a boiling kettle. It took a moment for her to remember the events of the night before and why she wasn't in her own room.

"Oh fuck." She whispered to herself as she rolled over to see the source of the noise; James' room mate and best friend, Taj, making coffee.

He turned around and feigned surprise at her presence; she knew very well he knew she was there.

He walked over, an empty mug in his hand. "Sup, Zana. Sleep well?"

"Argh, I have the worst hangover... Where's James?"

Taj gave a cheeky smile. She was tempted to get up and slap him, if only her headache wasn't so bad.

A few seconds later the door opened. Zana sat up expectantly, presuming it was James, but was surprised to see Charlie.

"Hey Zana?" He said, before turning to Taj. "Whats she doing here?" He whispered harshly.

Zana sighed. "I was totally pissed, so I slept over. Is it really that hard to wrap your heads around?"

Taj and Charlie both looked uncomfortable as they stood there, stuttering their next response.

Before they could finish, James walked through the door.

He was slightly startled by the scene before him.

"Um.... hi." James said uneasily as he placed two small plastic shopping bags on the floor.

As James began unpacking the bags into the fridge, Taj and Charlie tried to cover up for their awkward reaction to a girl being in their mate's bed.

"It's not that we don't see many girls... both me and Charlie get heaps, all the time! But James our friend doesn't seem to be blessed with the same luck."

Charlie nodded eagerly in agreement.

Zana smiled to herself, in full knowledge they were feeding her blatant lies.

"Well, I'm off. Got things to do, places to be." Taj said cheerfully.

As soon as he had left, Zana laughed. "Chloe sure dodged a bullet with that one."

James abruptly turned around. "What!?"

"Nah, it's nothing. Well, besides..." She began.

"Yeah what do you mean Chloe dodged a bullet? Zana spill!" Charlie said anxiously.

"Only that Chloe was totally digging Taj during basic training, and at that end of year party she kinda tried hooking up with him, but..."

James looked aghast as it dawned on him. "Chloe? Has a thing for Taj! You've got to be shitting me."

"Holy shit, man. Holy shit." Charlie mumbled.

"Wait, so Chloe, Chloe Clarke-Knight, actually wanted to get off with Taj? We're talking about the same guy right?" James asked, his jaw fully dropped.

"I guess, I mean that whole month she couldn't stopped raving about him." Zana couldn't admit this was only partly true; Chloe had mentioned Taj in a positive light, but she was drunk the night she tried to get off with him and Zana didn't feel it was that bad to exaggerate slightly. "And you're telling me he has no idea?"

"Nup." James replied, still in shock.

"Holy shit." Charlie kept saying, until Soon Zana got fed up with their awe and left to catch the elevator down to the dining hall.

As she was waiting out in the corridor, she realised she was slightly put off by the sudden attention shift to Chloe. "Whatever," She sighed, "boys will be boys." Her sour mood wasn't getting her anywhere, and it wasn't as if she had a reason to be jealous; James was just some guy and it didn't make a difference if he fawned over her best friend. She decided to go to breakfast to brighten her mood. Her crowd would be down there and there was never a juicy rumour going around that couldn't cheer her up.
