Walking down the Halloween decorated halls of a big store can really freak people out. "Ooo candy!" Jace screamed as he ran full speed down toward the candy isle. "Jace! Slow down and get back here!" Mother replied to his actions. "Ugh. Why couldn't she just of had one child?" Candace thought to herself. "Candace don't forget you have to baby-sit Jace on Halloween until the next day." "What?! Mom he's seven, drop him off somewhere." "Oh shush, it's not a big deal and besides, it's only Halloween, no one is gonna get you." "Ugh, fine whatever, have it your way!" Candace walked out of the store and waited in the car. Her mom came out five minutes later and sure enough, Jace had a whole bag of candy. Candace just rolled her eyes and put in her earphones. They started driving home in complete silence until Candace got curious. "Mom? Is that car following us?" She asked. "I'm sure they live down the same street honey, don't worry." Her mom replied. "Yeah, uhm, okay." She sat back uneasy with a more-than worried look on her face. The only reason it worried her was because Halloween was tomorrow night and people do freaky stuff on this upcoming day. As night approached she struggled to fall asleep and just laid down with her eyes wide open. Thinking about what her mom told her that same day at the store only worried her more. She finally fell asleep and just as she did, Jace ran in her room telling her to wake up. "Wake up Candace! Wake up it's Halloween!" He yelled. "Ugh! Oh my gosh! Jace get out!" She demanded. "No, mom is gone and we need to get ready for Halloween!" "Jace... It's not dark out, not even close! Now get out!" "Okay gosh, sorry." Still thinking about yesterday and being alone with her seven year old little brother all day, kept worrying her. She finally got up and lurked the house as hours flew by and Jace still bugging her about Halloween. "Uhm, Jace I don't think we should go outside when... when night falls." She stuttered to say. "Awe sissy why not?" He replied. "Jace trust me. I'm your older sister, please just trust me. Look, if you don't make me take you outside tonight I promise to buy you all the candy you want tomorrow." "Awe. Okay deal!" As night fell Candace looked at the clock while suddenly, she heard Jace scream. "Jace! Jace is everything okay?!" She yelled as she ran up the stairs of the two-story house.
Candace felt scared because it was midnight, storming and then suddenly, the power just went out as she ran up the stairs. "Jace?" She whispered cautiously. "Jace can you hear me? Jace come on, this isn't funny" She used her phone as a light to shine on the ground. Slowly, she approached Jace's room. Candace scanned the room the best she could with the light shining from her phone. She ran up to Jace as she sighted him hugging his knees in a corner with the look on his face as if he had just seen a ghost. "C-C-Candace..call mom." He shuddered quietly. Picking up her phone, she noticed there was no service because of the storm. "I can't, no service!" She whispered back. "Jace what happened? What did you see?" She asked. Gulping and breathing hard, Jace said, "There is someone in the house." "Stay here, I'm going to search the house." "N-No! I'm going with you!" "Okay, but promise me you'll stay close." They both walked down the dark hall cautiously. Once they got down the stairs there was a blank wall. As soon as they neared the wall, lightning flashed and they both saw a figure run across. Both screaming, they hugged each other tight. "Candace I want mom!" Jace said in a whinny voice. "So do I Jace, so do I, but right now we only have each other. " She replied. "I'm scared" "Me too Jace. Come on, we have to hide." Candace and Jace both went into a small, dark closet and hugged each other tight. Comforting her crying brother, Candace looked down at the floor as a light shinned through the bottom of the door. She saw a shadow along with the light.
"Jace stay quiet, close your eyes. Don't worry I'm here." She whispered trying to make him feel safe. Suddenly, the door knob started twisting to open the closet that they were in. Both Candace and Jace sat back as far as they could. "Listen to me, if that door opens, you better take off running as fast as you can! Run to a safe place up stairs and I will come find you. Okay?" She told her younger brother. He replied,"O-Okay." Suddenly, as Candace expected, the door swung open and they both ran as fast as they could around the house looking for a safe place to hide. Running as fast as he could, because he felt the stranger behind him, Jace tripped up the stairs. The stranger grabbed Jace up and covered his mouth. Trying to scream in terror, he bit the hand of the stranger and managed to get loose. "Ahh! Candace! Candace help me, where are you?!" Jace screamed in a panic. The stranger once again, got Jace, but this time he couldn't get loose. Candace heard Jace's terrible screams and rushed around the house looking for her little brother. "Don't worry Jace! I'm coming for you!" She yelled. As she ran through the kitchen, she spotted a wooden baseball bat on the floor. Slowly she picked up the bat and crept around the house. Nearing the staircase, she could hear a grunting sound. She then realized it was her brother, her own little brother in the hands of a stranger. Candace slowly approached behind the stranger with him not knowing she was there. She raised the bat and as soon as she did, the stranger turned around. Lighting flashed and she struck him over the head with the wooden bat.
He let Jace go and fell slowly and unconsciously to the hard floor. All at once, the power came back on and the storm stopped. Jace ran to Candace's side. "Is he dead?" he asked her. "No he is knocked out cold and we should see who it is." She told him. "NO!" What if he wakes up?!" "Relax, I'll just hit him again." "Ok....Okay fine." All of a sudden she reaches down towards the stranger. She hesitantly lifted the clown mask from the strangers face and gasped. "Are you serious?!" She yelled. "What? Who is it sissy?" Her brother asked curious and impatiently. "It's our freaking cousin Brandon!" "Wow." Jace kicked him and said, "Wake up you jerk!" Soon their mom walked in the door and it was around 2 O'clock A.M. "Kids, why are you still up, and why is Brandon here?" She asked. Brandon sat up and rubbed his head. "Mom! We have so much to tell you!" Candace said to her as both her children hugged her tight. Once their mom found out the whole story and why Brandon was there, she laughed at the whole Halloween prank, but also got on to Brandon for scaring the life out of the kids. Candace hugged her little brother and, in the end, realized just how lucky she was to have him.
