Jayne's POV
Our mom let Valerie go to Jaime's house for the break and that meant I would be by myself a lot. What mom doesn't know is that she'll be staying over there with Vic too, so me and Mike would probably spend a lot of time together. I thought about it all.
It's Saturday morning, first day of winter break. Christmas is on Wednesday. Valerie will be here for Christmas because we always spend Christmas together and New Year's Day is on a Wednesday which means we go back to school on a Thursday. That's roughly twelve days.
I smiled at the thought of spending so much time with Mike. Pulling out my phone, I decided to text him and ask him his plans for the day.
"Oh well I'm going to go hang out at the mall with my friends at around one. You should come too but we're walking."
"Okay. :)" I groaned because I actually hated walking to my destination.
I hopped out of bed and checked out the clock. It was still pretty early, only nine in the morning. The house was mellow and I knew my mom had to be up so I went downstairs to find her. Sure enough, she was at the table, glasses on her face, coffee in hand, and ready to go to work. I hugged her good morning.
"Hey, Jayne. Shouldn't you be sleeping in?"
"Mom, I'm the early bird. Valerie is the one who sleeps in, and Damion is the one who is really never here." She chuckled at the truth. "But I wanted to ask if I could walk to the mall with Mike later today." She scrunched up her face a little.
"Mike is Valerie's boyfriend's brother?" I nodded slowly, trying to read her. "Sure but he doesn't seem like your type. Meh, you're probably just like your mother." She playfully winked at me and tried to walk away but I followed her out to her car before she could leave for work.
"No, what do you mean I'm 'just like you?'"
"When I was your age, I was the same way. I was this good little girl, and then I had this transformation from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly." Our conversation continued through the rolled down window of her car and I listened intently.
"But yeah, I loved bad boys and everything about them. I pretty much let my world revolve around the thrill of being with one but that's just me. I believe your head is screwed on a little tighter." With that, she backed out the driveway and I walked back in the house. My appearance was messy as it could be and I hadn't even brushed my teeth yet, but I still had plenty I time.
I scanned the contents of the cupboard and my eyes stopped on the cookie cereal that Valerie usually ate. I poured a giant bowl and sloppily plopped down in a chair. I heard the front door open and seconds later, Damion walked in with his arm around Taylor's waist. She had an arm behind his back and she waved. I waved back at her and Damion approached me.
"Here, I was coming home and mom was on her way to work and she asked me to give you this." He handed me five twenties and I assumed it was for the mall.
"Oh, thanks."
"No problem. What's it for?"
"Nothing much, I'm just going to hang out with some friends at the mall." I tried my best to shrug off the conversation but I knew what was coming.
"Is Mike going to be there?" I crunched on my cereal and pretended to be distracted but all he did was sit across from me, in my line of vision. "Jayne."
"Damion don't pester her about it. If she wants to hang out with Mike, let her." Taylor came to my rescue and I gave her a smile of gratitude.
"Fine. But I want to meet him."
