My friends fall in love way too easily.
I shake my head at the sight of my best friend Carrie kissing yet another guy. What amuses me is the fact that like her, several people find pleasure kissing a different person every week, no matter the damage it causes. All of the popular people sadly see it as a party. Their idea seems to circle around the fact that since we are Juniors, none of the consequences matter........at least not for a while. They circle around this idea called love, entertwining their fate with the idea that love is either play or be played; no in between.
Carrie finally detaches herself from Josh, a popular Senior, before grabbing my hand and whisking me to lunch with her. Her bright blue eyes finally take in the disapproval in my plain brown ones as we reach our table.
"Oh come on, lighten up already. Just because you refuse to date anyone doesn't mean I can't have a little fun now and then." Her tone was light, as if trying to take away the sharpness of her words.
It was obvious that Carrie was a pretty girl, but that didn't change the fact that there were some things we just never agreed on. Although we both had blonde hair, our thoughts on love never matched.
"I don't refuse to date Carrie. Just because I've never kissed someone, does not constitute whether I'm dateable or not. I just want it t-"
"To mean something. You just gotta remember Ash, life isn't one of your favorite books." She interrupted me, twirling a piece of her straight hair with a perfectly manicured nail.
"I know. If it was, I'd be a lot less boring." We both laughed before continuing our lunch.

I open my locker the next morning to find a yellow piece of paper falling from the top.
'You aren't the only one who wants a kiss to mean something.'
What the actual heck?
Before my mind can process this note any further, Carrie comes running up with Josh and his friend Bennett. Almost immediately Carrie sees the note and yanks it from my hands. She begins reading it before I can stop her.
"You aren't the only one who....." She trails off before squealing in excitement.
Bennett and I cover our ears while Josh just shakes his head in amusement.
"Well! Go find out who wrote this!"
"Easier said than done Carrie! Plus, how am I supposed to appreciate a person eavesdropping in our convers-"
"Oh lighten up!" Once again, Carrie can't help interrupting. To my surprise, Josh had said that too.
I rolled my eyes before closing my locker and heading to class.

All day I had been analyzing that note. The handwriting looked so familiar, needless to say, it was bothering me. The entire time, Bennett was uncomfortable. It was then that I realized.....
"You wrote it."
He smiled before nodding.
Maybe this guy will be worth chancing.
