Jacie burst out the side door, tears running down her face. "Dad! Dad! You're alive!"

She leaped straight into her father's strong arms. How could this be happening? How had he escaped the truck? Whatever happened, she was glad he did it.

Jason slowly exited the car, but his expression was the complete opposite of joy. He was angry about something... even a little confused. He knew something odd was happening here.

Jacie's dad hugged her for a moment before gently pushing her off. He looked down into her dark eyes, but what she saw in his was guilt and sadness. What was wrong? Her smile quickly faded. "Jacie... I'm..."

He froze as if what he was trying to say physically pained him. Nicky quickly stepped up and put her hand on his shoulder. "Jacie, this isn't your father. His name is Liam."

"Your father, James, is... my twin brother," Liam tried to explain.

Twin brother? Her dad had a twin brother? Then... why did Liam have bruises on his face, and why was he wearing the same outfit her father had been wearing when she thought he blew up in the truck? "Wait... you're not my dad?"

"No," Liam shook his head sadly.

Jacie let go of the man she had thought was her father and turned to her mother with a questioning expression. "But... where's dad?" She grabbed her mother's arm in desperation.

Nicky and her father's impostor looked at each other guiltily. "We don't know."

Jacie didn't know what to think anymore. She'd known her parents tried to hide that she had a brother, but... her brother turned out to be a mindless killing machine... and... and now her father has a twin brother? And... her mother used to work with the bad guys! What else did she not know; that she's actually an alien from outer space?

Her first reaction was to turn to Jason. "Did you know about this too?"

Jason's expression was grim, but he walked up to her and put his hand on the upper part of her arm. Casting a glare in Nicky's direction, he said, "I thought I had."

By the way he was acting, Jacie was pretty sure he hadn't actually known about this. What could be so secret that not even Jason could know about it? Jacie realized something she wished she hadn't... if Nicky was hiding this from Jason, then it was definitely something he wouldn't agree with. Something about this just didn't feel right.

She put up her hands in frustration. "All right, that's it! I am sick of being kept in the dark! If someone doesn't tell me what's going on, Jason and I are leaving!"

She looked Liam and Nicky in the eye, but neither of them said a thing. It was as if they were paralyzed or something. Jacie only gave them a few seconds before taking hold of Jason's hand and pulling him back towards the car.

Liam reacted quickly. He leaped forward, taking a hold of Jacie's waist and yanking her, kicking and punching, away from Jason. "Let me go! Let me go!"

Jason swung around in a flash and planted a hard punch to Liam's face, making him drop Jacie to the ground in astonishment, but he didn't hesitate to punch back. Before this could turn ugly, Nicky forced herself in between them, pushing Liam away. "Enough! I said enough!"

The boys halted immediately, but Jason didn't move from his fighting stance. Jacie flung herself into Jason's arms, near tears. She felt betrayed, confused. Her leg was throbbing with pain from walking on it too much and her stomach felt like an empty hole from being so hungry. It felt like her whole life was crumbling, one little, painful piece at a time. The only person she felt she could actually trust right now was Jason.
