Chapter One
Kia supposed, that in hindsight, she really should have seen this coming. She hadn't been careful, and she had always been the one notoriously known, even in her most reckless moments, for her candid ability to hang onto her rationality. She was always so careful. So why had she expected anything other when it came to this; why had she been so flippant about the entire thing?
Perhaps because you were too busy running away from the pack of stray dogs at your heels. Kia sighed, running a weary hand down her face, wiping away the beads of perspiration that had settled on her forehead. She should have taken precautions, precautions kept you safe.
Sex - unprotected sex, no less - meant one thing; babies. How had that huge thought escaped her? When Luke's c0ck had slipped into her, had all her previous knowledge on how babies were made evaporated into thin air? A nauseating thought struck her hard then, and her gut took the brunt of the blow with a queasy churn. Had she wanted this - deep down, on some subconscious level of being? Had she wanted to get pregnant?
She stared at the surprisingly expensive stick with an expression portraying her conflicting feelings of confusion and outright disgust. She hadn't even known this was possible. She hadn't had much human interaction, let alone slept with many of them. Luke had been the first human relationship she'd experienced, and the only one she knew she would ever enjoy and cherish. She hadn't been taught this kind of thing back when she was young, and basking in the attention of her Pack. Sure, she used to have to sit through hour after hour of torturous sexual education, but it was always so specific: wolf mating. It was as though the bastards hadn't even considered the possibility that a wayward Wolf would one day detach from the group, and experiment elsewhere - with humans.
Surely, she hadn't been the first of her kind to make this mistake, and she highly doubted that she would be the last. Right then, she realised she just needed to get her shit together and simply think clearly without the image of mutated hairy babies infiltrating her thoughts every few seconds, instilling a new fear into her.
She needed to calm down. She needed to come to a decision. She needed to tell Luke.
Oh, God. Luke.
What would he have to say about this? She would have to tell him. Luke wasn't a Wolf, and he didn't know what she was, or what she could do. He knew nothing about what she'd abandoned the day she chose him over her Pack.
How would he react, if she were to tell him? Would she have to keep it a secret, or would it cause problems if something iffy was revealed during her pregnancy? Kia knew near nothing about what to expect - with the pregnancy, Luke's flight-risk status. Nothing.
What if she told Luke and he ran? What would she do then? Raise a pup alone? Would her family even take her back? Doubtful. They told her never to return, as she had chosen faux feelings of lust mistaken for love over loyalty and family.
More questions flooded her mind, and she was still without any answers. Would it be like a normal Wolf pregnancy? Or would it take the human-expected time? She just didn't know, and that scared her more than she was willingly to think about.
Biting her lip, Kia allowed her head to fall limp into her hands as she sat on the full sofa-chair in their living area. She couldn't look at the test a second longer. A throbbing pressure tested her temples, and made her vision blur sporadically.
What. A. Mess.
Regret at leaving home gnawed at her insides and made her stomach churn, and not for the first time, Kia found herself thinking about her Mate. She had no idea if he was alive, if he was looking for her, or was already married and holding the title of father. She just didn't know, and part of the reason she was in this mess was because she didn't care.
