Reese:
Everly Emerson.
She is what one would call special but who in reality was just different. My kind of different. Powerful from my people and special from the normal people the rumor goes. I don't pay too much attention to what regular people say as all my friends have abilities just as I do.
Everly was one of us. She knew it and we did too but we just didn't get near her. We were told not too and I did not question it as it was for the better. The annoying thing is that there was a need to be near her. I felt it and have been since we saw more and more of her in school as we got older. More classes, more activities. Just more of her. So I did my best to ignore her. Because although special in general, she was no one special to me.
I was curious to what she can do but she was so normal. She did not flaunt her ability. Her parents sway the conversion away from her. I always wondered why as her brother was always showing his power of ice. I could only think it wasn't something good. But I cannot imagine her being dangerous. She was quiet and to herself. The only reason she was well known to people was because her friends and brother forced her to do half the stuff she does in school or with people.
Still, I never spoken a word to her. I doubt she even knew my name. I sat the farthest away from her in the classes we had. I avoided her friends, while mine did also. I was able to do it all.
Until today.
"What are we supposed to do again?" Lee groaned. Looking at the assignment paper with squinting eyes. He didn't like wearing his glasses but he really needed them.
"We're supposed to create a power point on depression. Idiot."
Lee glared at Bryan. "Okay but what specifically."
Everly was looking at the assignment paper but her lips were twitching up in a smile but she was fighting it.
"You should've been listening," Bryan retorted.
"I was in the bathroom Bryan." Lee sighed patiently.
Bryan looked at Lee for a second with a frown. "Sucks to be you then."
I swear Lee was going to punch him but he seemed to calm down when I spoke up. "We have to research details. How it was really brought about as a mental illness, when, why, such and such." He threw up his hands.
"Thank you Reese! Thanks for nothing Bryan."
Bryan ignored him. They were my best friends but I knew they were something more. They never told me but that's just because Bryan is a stubborn person who doesn't want to come out even if he's in love with Lee. He's scared. Lee stuck by him until he could not take people hitting on Bryan. I saw it all happen. Eyes and through my power.
Their first kiss. First date. Lee's "I love you". I say Lee's and not "their" because Bryan never said it back. If Bryan wasn't one of my best friends, I would've smacked him so hard to make him see that it's okay. Say "I love you" back. Lee's heart broke in that moment and I could not intervene. They didn't know what my power was. Well just that one. I also had the power of speed. But that one is only if someone allowed me to steal energy from them. They had to open themselves up to me. Basically a power boost.
But I don't like doing that. Because to give me energy, they lose energy. It weakens them. And I just don't like asking for anything. It makes me feel weak.
"So what's your name?" Bryan asked Everly. As if he didn't know but to be polite.
She glanced at Lee, then Bryan. "Everly." She didn't even pay attention to me.
