While the young blond was walking through the bustling streets, she could feel the intense glares of hatred directed at her with each step. 'Ignore them. The villagers are all fools if they can't distinguish between a kunai and a scroll.' The fox mentally says to Naruko as she hears the villagers whisper hateful things like "Why hasn't the Fourth Hokage killed that demon," "That demon's days are numbered," or "We should just finish what Lord Third and Lord Fourth started." It didn't matter where she went in the village; it was all the same; the villagers and several ninjas would glare and whisper things about Naruko.
The cold glares, hateful whispers, and harsh beatings suddenly got a whole lot worse when her twin brother and sister started spreading rumors throughout the village. To the ninjas and villagers, her siblings were seen as heroes because they had the nine-tailed fox's chakra sealed inside them, while Naruko only held the soul. Everyone didn't know that a Bijuu's chakra couldn't be permanently sealed unless the Jinchūriki had the soul. Without the soul, the Bijuu's chakra would return to its owner. And at the rate that her brother and sister were using the Nine-Tailed Fox's chakra, they wouldn't have any of the fox's chakra left, which made Kurama happy.
In Kurama's mind, Naruko's siblings weren't worthy to have his chakra because they used it to hurt his kit. He believed that Naru was the only one worthy of his chakra. 'I can't wait til those idiots figure out that they don't have my chakra anymore.' Kurama laughed hysterically while Naruko walked to the Sarutobi compound to see Asuma. On her way there, the villagers threw rocks at her, but she ignored the pain. 'One day, I'll leave this hellhole, and I'll only come back to see my brothers, old man Teuchi and Ayame. But other than that, the villagers, the rest of the leaf shinobi, and my oh-so-loving family can rot in hell.' Naruko thought darkly until a rock hit the side of her head. Then, a villager threw another rock at her; she caught it and icily said, "How would you like to have a rock thrown at you!" She throws the stone with all her might, hitting the villager in the stomach with enough force to knock him past five buildings.
After seeing what she did, the group of villagers dropped the rocks that they were holding and ran off. "What a bunch of pansies," Naruko said to herself before she continued her walk. When she arrived at her big brother's family compound, she walked to the second guest house. Using her key, Naruko unlocked the door and let herself in. She went inside and headed to the kitchen, where her older brothers wore pink frilly aprons.
"I can't believe I let you talk me into wearing this, Iruka." Asuma groaned with a cigarette in his mouth. "You're the one who asked me to teach you how to cook." Iruka grinned at the older man. No longer being able to keep quiet anymore, Naruko held her sides and laughed so hard that tears came out of her eyes. "You both look ridiculous!" She said in between laughs. Iruka raised his brow while Asuma's face burned. The young girl laughed so hard that she lost her balance and fell on the floor, causing the two men to worry until they heard her laughing again. 'Naruko will never let me live this down.' Asuma groaned while Naruko laughed until her sides hurt, and then he held out his hand and helped her up.
"So what brings you here, Naruko?" Iruka asked, and Naruko blushed when her stomach loudly growled. "They didn't feed you again? Did they?" Asuma said, trying not to show his anger when she shook her head. "I'll make you some breakfast, Naru," Iruka said softly before he shooed her out of the kitchen. "They can't keep treating her like this. It's not right." The chain smoker growled. "I hate it too, but what can we do? Minato has rejected both of our petitions to adopt Naruko." Iruka said sadly as he started making breakfast for his little sister. "Dammit!" Asuma slams his hand down on the table and says, "It's not fair that Naruko has to suffer. I hate how the villagers, Minato, and Kushina treat her."
Iruka stopped what he was doing and shook from rage. "You don't think that I don't hate it just as much as you do. Every day, I'm the one who has to feed, clothe, and patch Naruko up when the hospital refuses to treat her. I can't even tell you how many times I had to save her from the brink of death." Tears of anger began to fall from the scarred Chunin's eyes. Asuma had never seen him this angry before. He was always calm and collected, never showing any signs of anger until now. "I'm sorry, Iruka. My anger got the better of me. When it comes to Naru's well-being, I..." Placing his hand on the older man's shoulder, Iruka says, "We both love Naruko, and we want what's best for her. So let's not dwell on thoughts of anger right now."
Asuma nodded, and then Iruka went back to cooking breakfast. While the men were in the kitchen, Naruko got out Asuma's shogi board and quietly played by herself. 'You love shogi.' Kurama said, impressed at all of the strategies that Naruko was using. 'Asuma's the one who got me interested in the game. And every time I play against him, he loses.' She mentally says with a small smile.
