Chapter 1: Day in the life of Ellis

I barely wanted to wake up today but then I realised in exactly 1 week the element trials start! I ran downstairs looking for Tobias, my older brother so he could school me a bit about whats going to happen in the trials.

I shout out "Tobias!" but he says "No" as if he already knew what I was going to say. I pester him about it for the next 5 minutes but then he explains to me how he must be loyal to the grand elementals and not reveal the secret of the trials. Of course, I still bug him but he just shouts "NO ELLIS!, it's forbidden... Ellis listen be careful during the trials ok" I reply "ok" then he scurries off to do guard duty.

"Ahh!" I shout as I see Ocean, my best friend standing by the door. We both jump, "How the hell did you get in my house" I say as she smiles while holding a spare key ; she probably swiped it from my brother's back pocket... "Oh shut it you know we're the best thieves in this dreadful town," Ocean says with a smirk. I chuckle and from there we're off to school.

The local juice man screams from afar "Hey wanna buy some juice!" Ocean laughs as she says "Don't worry Mr. Schneider we already got some." "Wait what," he says in shock, somehow he didn't realize Ocean already stole 3 full bottles and started chugging them down. I try and scold her but it's no use; *sigh* classic ocean.

Ocean goes rambling on about the element trials all the way to school then finally notices something is up with me, she asks in a concerned voice "Whats wrong?" I say nothing and brush it off until I crack and go on about how I'm scared I might not get an element, I mean no one in my family has ever gotten one... "You! how can you say that you're the most serious person I know" she says. "I'm the ONLY serious person you know" I reply smirkily. Then we both laugh.

"Woah look at the time we're almost late" I say worriedly to Ocean. We ran all the way to Ms. Palinsky's class. We rush to our seats but I hear her mumble "No wonder no one in her family has an element... always late" I ignore it though because she's always been on the rude side. "Alright Role call then final grades, listen up! Heather... Here!, Ocean... Here!, August... Here!, Ellis... Here!, Light... Here!, Rage...Rage!!!

"Here Miss, sorry" Rage says. "What's your excuse this time Rage", Rage doesn't answer then we go on to final grades...

"Miss, I'd just like to congratulate myself for being highest in the class and give the outskirt trash (Ocean) a heartfelt sorry for being last" Heather snarks. "Oh SHUT UP Hag - ther" I shout, I'm getting really tired of her stupid remarks. Anyway Ms. P just continues to read out our final scores...

Heather - 82%

Ocean - 64%

August - 90%

Ellis - 82%

Rage - 79%

Light - 99%

Now the most nerve racking part, our ranks...

Heather - Bronze 2

Ocean - Bronze 3

August - Bronze 1

Ellis - Bronze 2

Rage - Bronze 2

Light - Silver 5

Everyone gasps "What the hell, this Light kid is really something" I say. Then I look over to Ocean who seems to be lost in her own thoughts, wow it's hardly likely to see Ocean looking serious. "Hey Ocean loosen up a bit, at least you passed!" "ha ha yeah" she replies but you can tell she's a bit disappointed. "Miss it must be a mistake! I, Heather DuckWorth could never possibly get the same score as Ellis Whats-her-face" (add) stuff

"Real classy Heather" If we weren't in school I would rearrange her spoiled face.

"Quiet down class!" Ms P exclaims. Light shocked by Ms P's comment says "Well Miss if you really wanted the class to be quiet you wouldn't have read out everyones scores." The class gasped. "Hey! Just because your some time of 'prodigy' doesn't mean you can question my authority, anyway class, enjoy this week off because immediately after the Element trials are starting, the most elite grand elementals will be judging your every move, hopefully I'll see you ALL in elements academy" - "Cool it MP" - Ocean cuts her off.

"'I'm sure we'll all make it to the EA, don't worry" she says reassuringly and Ms P agrees.

...Meanwhile at Mr. Schneider's juice shop...

Bones and some kind of Middle Man enter and as Mr. Schneider tries to welcome them Bones gives him a chilling look. Mr. Schneider sets up a table for them then quickly runs off; it was quite obvious they weren't there to drink juice.

MM: *goes in for a hand shake*

Bones: *ignores it* Take a seat

MM: I have the stuff by the way *slides a bag across to bones*

Bones: Really, thats all

MM: It's all you need

Bones: This job...

MM: It pays very well

Bones: I know it does, only an idiot would rob the town vault without good pay

MM: I'm sure a hardened criminal like you has a plan

Bones: Of course, I've been in this business for 20 years and its always been the same thing; create a diversion, have all the guards running in one direction, attack in the other... meaning the vault

(They both smirk)

MM: What type of distraction do you have in mind

Bones: Well the element trials are next week, I bet the guards would all run to the trial hall if a couple more kids than usual start dying

MM: A bit sinister... even for a hardened criminal like you

Bones: I don't see the problem, better kids have died

(They both smile)

...Back at home...

Me and Tobias prepare dinner for the family and not to gas myself up but it smells amazing. "Ellis, Tobias are you guys there" Mum calls out. "Yeah we're here mum" we reply. Our dad bursts out shouting "Ho Ho, honey I'm home; wow that smells delicious!" "Dad!" we both call out. Everything was going great, with all the crazy stuff that happens in this town we somehow manage to stay really close. "Tito is really missing out, ha!" we all laugh about how he tries to 'rebel'. Tito's eyes fill with water as he was watching through the window but he rubs the tears away and barges inside... "Great, you're all having fun as a FAMILY, without ME!, how typical. We all ignore it as him as he rushes to his room, ugh Tito is always throwing tantrums
