I don't recall when it was decided that I lost my sanity. Whether it was sitting in front of a police officer or on my knees in a storage closet is beyond even a professional's discretion. Maybe it was the hormones or lack of moral guidance, but that summer, I swear, I watched my childhood wash down a storm drain during a June shower.
Sanity was the least of my losses during those muggy days. From the front porch of a rickety old trailer I watched my life imploded with the furry and might of a western train collision, but I'm getting ahead of myself. This isn't a sob story of how my life fell apart. This isn't a tragic explanation of how everything around me suddenly ended. This is how I found myself cross between child to woman and everything in between, and it all took place during that summer, the summer that changed my life.
